Just a note: Carl Rossler ranked the 200 as the weakest based on size and strength of the internals (shaft diameters etc). He explained the 200, then 700 / 4l60 350 4l80 / 400 was how he rates them strength wise. His comment that hit home with me was " You hear so much about "bullet proof" 200's and lotsa shops advertise them... but its not often you see a serious consistant car at the track with one. In the end, I coud tink of a few, but many many more with 700s. Now there may be more aftermarket hard parts for the 2004r, that I dont know, just thowing my 2 cents in.

The 4L80-E, guaranteed.
It's plenty stong, but the real marvel is how effortlessly it shifts under full throttle. They can be so precisely controlled that you can have silky smooth shifts with low throttle positions that ramp up to neck-snapping full throttle. The 4L60-E or 700R4 can be strengthened with better parts, but shifting is still being done by an over-worked band and undersized clutch pack. The 4L80-E (and TH400 for that matter) blow it away in terms of shifting torque.
When I set out on the 4L80-E swap I knew it would be better than the 4L60-E was, I did not, however, expect it to make the car so much more drivable - it's MUCH nicer than I had hoped.
