How slow is my ARE 422?
I was at TMP on Saturday, but arrived too late to witness Wade's 9.04-second pass. I knew that this day would show me what this car is made of, and I knew mid-11s were guaranteed.
The weather was clear and cool (est. 65 degrees), with a slight headwind. I made 2 passes all day. Whereas my previous best with this new motor was a measly 11.849 in poor track conditions, today was a different story:
Pass No. 1
I did a burnout and launched off idle.
60' 1.624
330' 4.664
1/8 7.252
MPH 95.05
1000' 9.493
1/4 11.387
MPH 118.81
Pass No. 2
Five hours and two crashes later, I got my second run. This time I removed the air filter and preloaded the converter to about 1200-1500 RPM:
60' 1.565
330' 4.589
1/8 7.158
MPH 95.81
1000' 9.376
1/4 11.244
MPH 121.16
Wade swears he saw my front driver's side wheel lift a few inches. In any case, the car hooked like a bastard and propelled me to boyracer nirvana. SShe may be hiding 10s from me. We shall see. I am on cloud 9 (err...cloud 11?).
(Afterwards an 8-second car broke an axle on launch and, front wheels in the air, bolted to the right and leaped over the wall just before the tree and came to rest in the other [left] lane.)
Details: '98 Camaro SS, ARE 422, Yank PT3900, shift kit, Grotyohann 1-3/4 longtubes, SLP MAF, LS6 intake, airlid, ORY, 3.73:1 gears, torque arm, adj. shocks, front k frame, 454 rwhp, 500+ rw lb.ft. torque

I'm sorry I missed your second run, but it was a blast to see the first and the video looks great. Your car left hard and straight <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
Well done Steve

Nice new time Steve!!!
Keep working on it, you might just need to adjust some things to get into the 10's... I went 11.02@122.6mph at 3500 raceweight on a 1.50, so my car is going good up to the 1/8 (97.5mph) but falls off so we are going to look at the injector offsets in the tuning among other things.
We met at ARE once and maybe at the track?
I'm adding your lazy azz to the NA top 50!!!

P.S. Was at TMP today (witnessed Wade's 8.97 run); best was only 11.42 (track didn't hook too well) but mph (without locking tranny) increased to 120.7X.
