Default 231/237 Dyno Numbers

Welp, I'm going to find out how my car does today. Finally going to get it tuned. I've been running around with no tuning for quite awhile now. Anyone want to guess at the numbers I might get???

2000 Firebird: Mods are-
1. 231/237 TSP cam
2. home ported TB
3. Kooks longtube headers
4. LID
5. Cutout at the back, right before the muffler
6. SLP 85mm MAF
7. 4.10 gears {might sap a couple of ponies}
8. ASP uderdrive pulley
9. De-baffeled the hood and sealed it to the hood {won't show nothing on the dyno}
10. Big 17X10.5 wheels with 315s mounted {sap a few more ponies}

Right after the cam, I ran the car at the strip. My best run was a 12.40@116.5mph with a 1.78 sixty foot.As I said, this was right after the cam, no tuning nor did I have a cut-out then. Since the car is a 2000 model, it has a LS1 intake right now.The car's race weight was 3470lbs. I actually gained quite a bit of HP after the cam and headers. My previous best was a 12.59@108mph with all the mods listed except the cam, headers and cut-out. I gained about 8 mph from the cam and headers only.

I know that the ET wasn't to great {weak stock clutch and no power shifting} but the mph seems to be pretty good. Any guesses on what it will dyno before and after the tuning???? I figure that tuning might give me 20-30HP {running bad rich now and I'm on the stock rev-limiter}, the cut-out anouther 5HP or so. Might can gain 35 or so HP is my guess. How much HP is required for each additional MPH? Just wondering if I might get up into the 120s?

I'm going to guess 385HP & 358TQ.

I tuned a car with that cam, and I'm not impressed. It had some Patriot Performance LS6 Heads and the best we could get was 404HP & 365TQ, no knock, A/F was at 12.5 - 12.8 and 27-28 degrees timing...

I hope you get some good numbers.....

My best cam-only ET with the 231/237 was 12.1
My best cam-only MPH was a rather decent 118mph.

JDPZ28, I've never had a Camaro.

Billiumss,, you almost pegged it.
Without tuning, I pulled 377.87 HP and 349.79 FTLBS. Rich at start of run, richer toward the end. About 13:1 at start, starting going down at around 4K rpms, it finally ended at about 12:1 at 6K rpms. No cutout.

After tuning, I pulled 392.72 HP and 360.89 FTLBS. Max power was made at about 6300 rpms. Air fuel on this run started at around 13.8:1, peaking at about 14:1 at about 4800rpms, then it started going back rich again. It ended up at 13.5:1 at 6400rpm. Cutout was open on this run. I don't think he checked for knock retard nor was the timing checked. I think I may end up getting HP Tuners later on to check thing out for myself.

Jason from Texas Speed and Performance said something a bit on the strange side was going on looking at the way the air fuel ratios were. I dunno, it's my first dyno run and the first time I had the car tuned. The idle picked up pretty good. At first, it would hunt around a bit then calm down, by the time I made it home,,,, it had gotten better. I may drill the throttle a bit more,,, most likely I'll just leave it be. It's alot better than it was.

Overall I'm pleased with the drive ability improvement. I was hopeing for more HP {who ain't???} but with my mods,,,,, it's bout average I think. I only picked up about 5hp from the cutout. That was alot of work for 5hp,,, glad I didn't pay to have it put in! One day, I'll get around to installing a better intake, a LS6 or maybe a LS2.

In any event,, I have enough HP to run 116mph without the tuning or the cutout. Hopefully I can pick up a couple more mph next time at the strip. ET will most like not budge much,,, still have the 10bolt!

I would like to thank Jason and Tim {I think that was his name} at Racetech Speed and Performance. Got in 5 runs and they didn't rush me any. Even when I showed up wanting to change plugs,,,,, thanks fellers.

Actually worse (weather played a major factor). I've run 11.9 @ 117.5mph in 95 degree weather, with the heads, on the brink of a thunder storm, just before the track was closed due to the storm.

I'm waiting for the Fall to come around to go to the track again. Summer is way too hot and humid down here for decent times.

I saw your car out a racetech today when you were dynoing... VERY nice car. Love the wheel and tire package on it. That's some of the best 231/237 cam only numbers with a LS1 intake I've ever seen. When you buy a LS6 intake it will really put it over 400rwhp.

Glad to hear that tuning helped you out, it should feel a little more snappy now in the mid range and up top...

anybody notice his a/f at 14:1 at peak tq and only 13.5:1 at 6400? Isnt that a bit on the lean side for a dyno run?

The A/F should be 12.4-12.8 across the board on the dyno.

Jason said that some of the lean numbers were from having the cutout open. He tuned the air/fuel without the cutout first. Then, once he haid the air/fuel where he wanted it, he did a couple of runs with the cutout open.

The sampling tube was not in the cutout. That was the reason for the lean looking numbers {I think}.

Thanks for the complements gomer! BTW, who were you so I can put a name to your call sign.
