Back from the Motown Muscle Event new best and NEW ARE record
Just got back from the Motown Muscle event <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
It rained on the way there and the track didnt dry till almost 2:00pm but there was a pretty good turnout.
Ton of F-bods, C5's, Vipers and other cars. Turbos, nitrous cars, fast all motor cars.
ARE cars dominated both Naturally Aspirated and Nitrous passes for the day <img border="0" alt="[devil]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_devil.gif" />
Got to meet/see again a few guys from the board (Tom Kempf, Matt Harlan, Derty, 98 Gold formula, and others)
Here are the weather conditions:
Baro 30.02
Humidity 95% <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />
Temp 56 degrees
DA: 615 feet
I managed to run a best new pass in almost all aspects.
Here is the first good pass:
Had my best launch ever but nailed the rev limiter hard on the 1-2 shift (Would have been 11.2X) Oh well I'll have to wait till spring hehehe!
Wheels were 5-6 inches in the air <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />
60: 1.58 (NEW BEST ON ET STREETS!!)
Hit the rev limiter on 1-2 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />
330: 4.697
1/8: 7.279
MPH: 95.52
990: 9.496
1/4: 11.355
MPH: 121.25
Next pass I spun a little (slightly worse sixty)
but I managed to stay off the rev limiter on the 1-2 shift)
Here is the slip:
60: 1.60
330: 4.689
1/8: 7.245 (New Best 1/8th) <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />
MPH: 96.44
990: 9.448
1/4: 11.304 (New best ET) <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />
MPH: 121.26
Wade from ARE ran his 98 Z-28 beast to a new world record of 8.92@155mph with the car all over the track up to the 330 foot mark!!!
SteveL ran a new best with a couple of 11.0's@124.XXmph with full interior minus jack/spare and pass seat.
Saw Matt Harlan run some SICK times in his turbohawk as well.
All in all it was a great day. Wade also had a raffle for a heads and cam package which one lucky racer won.
I believe SteveL and I had the fastest all motor Ls1's there today by a large margin which was pretty cool.
On a semi-bad note when I went to the pits to switch back to street tires I noticed I couldnt get my drivers side wheel back on the car!! I BENT all the studs on the drivers side!! (These are aftermarket hardened studs for a 12bolt too!!)
Going with half inch studs next. <img border="0" alt="[devil]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_devil.gif" />
It was great seeing everyone and congrats to the organizers/sponsors of the event!
Cheers,
Chris
ps- Congrats to Tom Kempf with his new C5R motor that ran a 9.4X@13X mph on juice but unfortunately hurt something in the motor (Hope it isnt anything serious Tom!)

Re: Back from the Motown Muscle Event new best and NEW ARE record
Thanks Guys <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
Jason, its funny you mention that <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
I had a slight chattering sound from the clutch at idle (thought it was a throw out bearing gone bad. We pulled the clutch out and the fingers on the pressure plate arent all even.
Some are noticeably lower than others. Also on the PP side there looks to be even clamping force but on the flywheel side you can see where the disc is only clamping parts of the flywheels outer edge. I am not too worried as it isnt slipping at all but I can see where the uneven clamping is going to chew through flywheels pretty fast <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
Did you see the same thing from other REV Lok 2 clutches? Dont get me wrong I am happy with how it works but I wonder how aggressive it would bite with full clamping force!
Cheers,
Chris

Re: Back from the Motown Muscle Event new best and NEW ARE record
That's strange Chris. I haven't heard of that with any of the Rev-loks as of yet. I'll call George @ Mcleod on Monday to see if he has heard of anything.
At least it isn't slipping. lol <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Re: Back from the Motown Muscle Event new best and NEW ARE record
Thanks Chris,
The block is a Katech re-sleeved 418ci. This is not a C5R. That is for next year. I blew the head gasket around the #7 cylinder. 9.41 @ 133 coasting across the finish on a 1.52 60ft and the NX delay box set up for 300 in 1.8 sec. The car runs consistant 10.6@127 with the gearing, cam and converter all set up for N2O. I had 0 KR and the O2's were 800 or so the whole run. I am gonna use the kimetic head gaskets and a much more agressive tune for TR. Car weighs 3380 with me in it.

Re: Back from the Motown Muscle Event new best and NEW ARE record
congrats to those with new personal bests! i even mustered a new personal best in the wifes car <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
13.4 @ 100.85.
Tom your car ran like a bat out of hell <img border="0" alt="[devil]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_devil.gif" />
and come on now that was @ 135 mph on the brakes!
Harlan, ran 10.40, nad that was as he was figuring out the launch on the car at the track his last pass of 10.50 was spinning like crazy, getting sideways, then trapping at just over 140 mph!!!!!!!! AWESOME!
looks like it won't be until next year for me.

Re: Back from the Motown Muscle Event new best and NEW ARE record
Tom,
Oh thats cool, I thought you had the C5R in the car (That is what one of the guys said when he came over) Is that the 418ci motor with ARE heads on it right now?
Thanks for organizing a great event. I am sure next year will be even better (especially if the weather cooperates hehe)
cheers,
Chris

Re: Back from the Motown Muscle Event new best and NEW ARE record
Tom's engine is not a 418, it is a 414. It has a 4.060" bore with a 4.000" stroke. Tom just misstated the cubic inches. So it is smaller than the other LS1's that have run in this time range. The block is also a Katech resleeved block, not a C5R block. He has a set of our custom LS1 pistons in it. It also has a set of reworked ARE LS1 cylinder heads on it. This car is the real deal, look for it to go 9.0000's at the Thunder Racing event. Maybe even faster.
