That's what I was thinking too. Hell, I don't even have a convertor, so it's not like I'm punishing the tires anyway. You've got a convertor and more power than I do, so if you haven't had problems with that many passes, I wouldn't think I would. I don't go to the track that often. I've had the car for about a year, and I've only made 11 passes (same day).

What's your average 60-foot?

Thanks for your reply...

I would not worry too much about the rearend breaking. I have run my car at the track for 2 years now and have luckily had no troubles at all even with nitrous launches.I 60 ft a best of 1.74 and average a 1.8 on spray with the stock convertor. so go to the track and have fun,but your etstreets are going to suck some mph from your times. That seems to be the norm. Good luck!

You'd probably be quicker by just sticking to one of the radial drag tires out there (BFG or Nitto), than an ET Street. Especially since you still have a stock converter in the car.

The ET Street will hook better, but I seriously doubt if you're anywhere close to the limits of a radial tire at this point. You could loose .1 seconds or more with an ET Street type tire in your case.

YMMV...

Default Automatic with ET Streets?

Here's my question...

If I were to put ET Streets on my basically stock automatic LS1 Formula (no convertor) with 3.23 gears, how long could I expect my rear end to last? I know the M6 guys blow their's away, but since I can't launch at a high RPM, I figured it wouldn't be such a big deal on an automatic car.

Am I asking for it? Or do you think the rear end will hold up pretty well?

I really don't want to grenade my rear end anytime soon, but i want to see what the car can do, basically stock, on ET Streets...

You should not have any problems with it.
The key words are "should not".
There are always a risk of running sticky tires at the track. With that said, I have been running at the track with ET Streets (had 350 passes) on them and now I switched over to Hoosiers Slicks (have about 50-60 passes) on them.
So far no problems yet. The autos are easier on the drivetrain than the M6's do.

How could I lose time? I'd be using the 26x10.5x16. Isn't that basically the same size as the stock tires? Do ET Streets weigh more or something?

they dont weight more and are damn close to stock height, but you could overhook and bog the motor down real hard since you dont have a convertor that slips and stalls up higher.

The overall height will be fairly close (with the M/T being the taller), but the bias-ply construction of the tire has a greater rolling resistance than a radial tire.

Trust me, you can easily go slower with an ET Street if you don't need it.

Exactly what George said. You need a converter before you need ET Streets.

ET Streets is too much tire for you. Stick with DRs for now. Once you get a converter, get ET Streets cause your gonna need it. Good luck.

I run BFG DR's on my bone stock A4 and have found that as I lower air pressure and start hooking better, my times get worse. I can lose 2 tenths just lowering the pressure from 24 psi down to 20 psi. This is telling me that you can definitely "over-tire" a stock A4. I was planning to get ET streets but will not now until I get a converter.

ET Streets, or DRs for that matter, are only going hurt ETs in most cases w/the stock 'verter. When I still had the stock converter I always went faster with a little tire spin, a dead hook w/the stock converter will bog and slow you down.

If you have a set available try it out, see what your times are like. I did that and noticed with stock vert. I was .1 quicker but I lost 2mph. After the vert install, I picked up another .5 sec off ET and got back the 2mph lost plus 1 or two. The question should be are you capable of running ET Streets on your stock A4 car? The car will hold it, but your results may really depress you, so be prepared. I just noticed you dont have SFC, you may want to look into those, bad things can happen without them if your really hook, but then again without the converter you'll probly bog enough to not screw up the car. Good-Luck.

Charlie.

bascailly everyone is telling you that you can hook to good with et streets.. if you hook and dont have enough power then its gonna slow you down on top end. ET streets flex so much that on there rolling resistence will kill your top end.

just slap a nitto drag on there and run 20-24PSI... start out trying 26psi and drop form there if you dont hook. You want to run as much air as you can in the tires as long as you are hooking.

Ive cut 1.58's on 16inch nittos, but thats with a stall/headers and etc etc stock internally though..

when i was stock i only saw 1.98's or so on nittos simply because I didnt have any mods to push my slow POS off the line
