Default Whats required to do away with ABS and brake booster?

I seen a LS1 car running no brake booster and no ABS unit out at the shootout. I was considering doing away with mine too in an effort do save some weight. Its looking more and more like the car is going to be "track only". Just curious what is required in doing so and what else I have to do to meet requirements for braking if any additional components must be added back.

I also plan to remove my a/c system soon. Wish I would havd done it before the 10 pt and the new engine but I guess its never too late.

Other things to remove are bumper supports and cruise control. Airpump is already gone as well as a large portion of interior components.

Add comments or ideas on whether to do this and the best way of doing this.

Derek, you need a K-frame/ A-Arms and a motorplate. That'll give you lots of room under and around the engine. You need a Wilwood manual brake setup.

Derek,

We offer the adapter plate and Strange master cylinder for this exact reason. Our adapter plate bolts through the existing booster holes in the firewall and includes a new rod and end to attach to the pedal. There is also an optional line loc included in this kit. Thanks

I Don't think there is much of a weight saving, and they don't stop as good with stock brakes. It is like an older Camaro with manual brakes (if you ever drove one?) You really gotta press that pedal <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> I did it because I don't think I have enough vacuum for a stock setup..

Thanks for the reply. I'll get with Jay this week. I already have the k-member and a-arms. I've got rid of my front swaybar and the brackets for it as well. The next step is to move the battery to the rear. Get rid of the a/c stuff and the cruise control since I don't use it with my new shifter and th400.

Anyone know how much the evaparator core weighs and if it is worth removing with the rest of the a/c components. I know someone said the condensor, compressor brackets, and etc comes in right over 40 lbs. Some of this weight would be offset by the addition of a vacuum pump though.

Thanks again for the replies

I wouldn`t mind getting rid of the ABS and associated components but I don`t think I would go to a manual brake set up.(A little too hard core for me!) I just removed my A/C,(compress., brackets & pullys, refridge. lines, and what ever it is that sets in front of the radiator?) Also removed the A.I.R. pump & hoses and the sway bar mounting brackets & hardware. I didn`t have a very good scale but it came out to like 55 lbs. I wish there was a way to replace the blower motor housing with a non-A/C one and keep the heater system functional but it doesn`t look like that is possible w/o taking the dash apart! I don`t feel that moving the battery to the trunk is worth the trouble as opposed to getting a light weight battery (i.e. Dynabatt). But that`s just me.
