Default Question about 2.73 Gear swap

I have 2.73 gears and was wandering if 3.23s (from an auto) or 3.42s (from a manuel) will bolt direcly in place of the 2.73s or do I need to buy new parts to upgrade it so they would fit?

Well from my understanding im order to put those 3.23's gears you want into your vehicle,You would have to have a 3 series carrier and what I beleive you have is the 2 series carrier, but Ive heard that they sell aftermarket gears that will work with you current carrier.I may be wrong,so someone with a little more info on this stuff can correct me.

you can buy gears for a series 2 carrier, but they usually cost more and are a bitch to find. i know that motive and strange are on national backorder for like 3 months. just buy a whole rear end for $200 and call it good. that what i'm doing.

Get them from thunder racing, I got them lickity split. 3.42s for 2-series. Gears from an M6 would require a spacer and that is no good. You could shear them. Just go to thunder.

Thanks for the infomation. The 3.42s that you bought; did they bolt right in place or have any problems with them. Also was there a noticeable difference in your times.

They went right in the 2 series carrier, no spacers. Just a clean install. You have to buy the Ratech install kit that comes with new bearings, crush sleeve, etc. There's a couple kits to choose from. I went the $100 kit. Speed and throttle response is defintely improved. After Hypertech, and my car learning its new gears, highway acceleration was way awesome. Sure you are at higher rpms, but from were it lies @2500rpm at 80mph, for me, I could merge over to the next lane at 95mph with a light squeeze. If I squeeze a little more I'm @ 115mph. I haven't merged at WOT, but I'm sure it's scary. Normal driving brings about firmer, shorter, more agressive shifting. Just the way like it, especially when I hit 2nd gear.1st feels the same at normal acceleration. 1st At WOT has so much more torque when I nail it from a stop I easily lite up the tires. I know I'm not supposed to that's probably me. Lately, I've been doing some launching practice.

i went from 2.73's to 3.73's and gained 2 tenths and 4mph in the quarter... Lighing up the tires into third is no sweat. Car feels 100x faster, shifts hard. New carrier ($100) and deluxe install kit ($130) is what i needed.

The gears that I would be getting would probaley be 3.42s because its the middle gear and because I'm thinking of adding headers and keeping the loudmouth if its not to loud and didn't want high rpms when driving around normally. Anybody that disagrees and think I should go 3.23s or 3.73 instead. Also is launching the new gears alot harder than 2.73s because they don't spin much at launch and how much did your gas mileage drop off?
I see that you have a 85 mm maf; did you have any problems with the hypertech to program the maf because they have at their site that is supposed to be used with stock mafs and that why I haven't purchased one yet.

Gas is reletively unchanged, maybe a hair. Yes, I think I could use bigger tires if I'm going to go to the track. No problems with my LS6 "Delphi" MAF and HPP3.

my gas mileage went down a lot, i use to get 260 miles out of a mixed highwya/city tank, now i get 200 if im lucky. Launching is a little bit harder. A bigger tire hurt me at the track, i used 26" et streets and went 2 tenths slower and 4 mph slower than with my stock tires.
