346 to 408 question?
I am thinking about going to a 408 small block, I have seen these in magazines with forged internals for around 3600-3800. I was told it weighs about 80 pounds more than the 346 but I would get 62 extra cubic inches. Since I was planning on doing a forged 383 stroker, the 408 sounds like a pretty good deal. I was told that the 408 will bolt right up to my current tranny, Will it work with my current heads (yes they will be freshened up)? what about my LS6 intake? Will I have to replace my headers? Just trying to figure what all will have to be replaced.
Thanks for any input

John...
Everything will bolt up just fine except the alternator which is an easy fix from what I have been told. Your heads and intake will bolt up just fine, however if it was my car I'd be searching for a new heads/intake/camshaft combo if you have the money to spend to allow it.

You also might want to upgrade your cam depending on what your running now, since you can get away with a bigger cam with the additional cubes.

Why weird? 241 LS1 will give him more CR on a 408 but will be lacking in flow potential.
Stage II LQ9's will provide the added flow and are the correct heads. If on budget try PP stage 2's.
