high mile motors???
what are you all take on high mileage car, say 100k and more? i have found a few 98 Z28 cars for under $8k with 100K + miles on them and want to know if they are going to be more trouble than they are worth. i dont plan on keeping it stock any longer than i have too. i am looking to go the heads cam intake route with an auto tranny and TCI 3500 stall. would it be best to pull the motor and freshen it when the heads and cam go on, or just leave it alone and go till it blows?

Re: high mile motors???
I'm sure that there are a fair number of people on this baord that are going to be ripping apart the bottom end of their motor soon and replacing with fully forged pieces, possibly larger displacement (myself included). Having a motor that has 120k on it wouldn't matter if that's your plan. If you're looking to go small, put on H/C, blower and or nitrous and all the bolt ons and live with it for a couple of years, then yeah that seems a bit high.
LOL, I called H/C/FI and all the boltons small...I'm sick.

Re: high mile motors???
Buy it and replace the engine with the 6.0l engine.
Seriously, if the car feels solid and well maintained it should be ok. With the money you save you could almost pay a shop to do a forged rebuild with heads and cam.

Re: high mile motors???
i am planning on a 382 all bore in the future. i was gonna put H/C intake on it and drive it for a yaer or so or until it blows up. i just wondered if the higher mileage cheaper cars are the way to go if you are planning a bunch of mods anyway...

I bought a '99 B4C cop car for $7300 with 112K on it. Its got 118K now, doesn't use or burn a DROP of oil, and it is ONE FAST MO FO...I'll throw a lid and cutout on it and get times later in the spring but I KNOW its faster than the TA was stock.

I put the cam in the vette with 78K on it, heads on with 80K on it. Stock lifters still in it. Inside of the engine looks great, uses around a quart every 3000 miles with some serious beating, uses no almost no oil regular driving. Original trans and fluid (except the fluid replaced with the converter swap at 76K) with a vig 3000 and the car shifts great after dozens of 1.62-1.72 60' passes.
387rwhp on a A4 C5 is pretty good with a small cam, its amazing how these LS1s hold up..
