Default 2001 Bolt on Z06 Dyno results.

The car is a red 2001 z06 with LG Motorsports 1 3/4" long tube headers, off-road x-pipe, Borla Stinger exhaust, and vararam intake (stock intake neck).

This was my first open loop tuned car. I monitored the car through EFI Live and noticed that the ltrms were not responding nor were the front 02s. I immediately asked Dave if the front 02s were plugged in and he indicated he didn't know. We looked under and sure enough they weren't plugged in.

Anyway, I just added fuel to the main volumetric efficiency table and noticed that the cruzing air fuel ratio came down (monitored via my wide band) but the wide open would not come down from 13.4-13.1issh. However, even with 30 degrees of timing the car did not ping or show knock retard with this mixture. We put the car on the dyno right from the street tune and the numbers came to 376.6 rwhp and 372.8 rwtq. Remember, this car is an 01 which is a 385 horse car and he still doesn't have a ported throttle body or underdrive pulley. I put more fuel in via the power enrichment table after this but the dyno shorted out and I did not have a chance to re-dyno to see if it made more power with a 12.8-13.0 ish air fuel ratio.

Question, is the power enrichment table utilized in open loop mode? I did not get a chance to put my wide band on and see? The car did however produce a little more black smoke when I did this and wot'd on the street.

This car is pretty cool. I smoked a bike in the way up to carlisle from a 70mph roll. You should have seen the look on the guy's face.

Also, I found out that my dad's car (stock 02 Z06) has an overly sensitive knock sensor. I managed to get him to the 363 rwhp number, can't remember his torque. The car responded better with each time I put more timing in but the knock sensor also took more and more out in the 4400 ish rpm range. The car pulled the 363 rwhp number on only 22 degrees of actual timing and a 12.3-12.7 a/f. Even with only 22 degrees programmed timing it was pulling 3 degrees of knock.

You'll see better power running leaner in the 13.6 to 13.8 range versus 12.8-13.0 range

Promising, thinking with a mild 230/232 cam on a 112 and good tuning that setup would be well over the 400 mark.... Hmm maybe time to start spending money behind the old ladies back. Damn exaust leaks............

Just curious, what makes you say this? Do you have an experience to back this up.

I remember looking at a graph in the Lingenfelter book showing how horsepower fall going lean and going rich. The hp fell much faster running too lean then it did too rich.

12.8-13.0 is to lean IMO, although people think its normal

How close is the AFR from your runs on the street to those on the dyno? Curious......

Very nice gains, and with a lite car......must be a lot of fun

Actually right on the money to my suprise. I found that third gear on the street wot pulled the same a/f ratio as fourth gear wot does on the dyno. This LM1 Innovative Motorsports Wideband appears to be very accurate.

You mean gas mileage do'nt you?? That is way too lean for any car under wot(p.e.). Your decay rates in the vet sound like they are kicking in.....Once it starts knocking it does'nt seem to recover, which byt the way brings me to the recovery rate which I normally shorten once I 've gotten the k.r. eliminated and the timing dialed in. 22 is quite low as far as the average timing at wot.

Yeah, that is exactly what I did to the 02 but we didn't get a chance to re-dyno it. I agree, 13.3 is too lean.

I have ran my motor on the dyno over 60 times and more than this at the track.

Each motor is a bit different based on the efficiency of the exhaust system. If you ask Lou at LG Motorsports, you'll find that he typically tunes his cars that use his LT headers even leaner than this and runs the exact same A/F at teh track as on the dyno! Don't believe me....ask Lou or Tony Mamo....he runs his car close to 14:1 due to the efficiency of the burn

Very interesting. This is wide open mixtures too right, not part throttle?

Did you happen to try a lower timing on the dyno like 24-25 degree's?I've found more power in the 01's with low timing even though no KR was present up to 28degree's.Also I run 12.5-1 on the dyno's which ends up ideal for the track #'s.

Correct

I started at about 27 degrees and picked up power for my particular combo all the awy to 31 degrees. Every ported head will be different depending on your compression ratio, combustion chamber porting, quench distance and exhaust efficiency. Most LS6 heads like timing in the mid 20's whereas most LS1 heads like timing closer to 30 or even the low 30's.

yes and they also run race gas. Anything above 13:0 on the street is too lean. He needs to richen it up to around 12:5 at peak torque and gradually lean it out after that to about about 12.8 or so for the best results.
