Default T-rex Cam, need your thoughts......

I just ordered the T-rex cam from Thunder Racing. Looking at my sig, how well will it compliment my setup? I have also added an NX MAF kit(150 shot)car only made 425 at the wheels with the current setup N/A. TIA!!!!

No offense but seems really low. You said you have a 150 shot, so 425hp-125 (some loss, some benefit of the doubt) looks like you only made 300hp all motor, and you already have a cam and heads and bolt on's.

He said that dyno was N/A, not on the spray.
Sounds like a good setup, are your heads milled?
Do you plan on flycutting or anything?

heads aren't milled, it has Diamond pistons with a dome. I had them custom made to work with a stock rod and the '03 LS6 heads, so I guess they are already flycut. When I dynoed the car it was 104 degrees outside and the motor only had about 800 miles on it, so I figure I was losing some power there also.

I'd ball park it to another 15 RWHP over your current cam..

the guys that built the engine said the high compression would give me more than 150 at the wheels, they estimated it at 580-600hp and 650-700tq at the wheels on the hose.

I want to do that cam also but after talking to Thunder they said that the cam makes the brakes hard because of the vacum it creates, and that it will buck or spudder under 2K RPM's. I dont daily drive my car but i do drive it on the street. But i want to hit 400hp all motor on stock heads through and auto with a PT4000 so ill be willing to give up some driveability, But i dont want a cam that will buck like a wild horse when crusing and die at every light.

I see alot of posts about Trex ? lately. Your brakes will not be harder because of vacuum drop, at least not mine. You need to know how to tune your car! If you want a 500 RPM idle, this cam is not for you. If you don't want to spin your motor up to 7200 RPM to take full advantage of this cam, it's not for you. It does not sputter below 2K! With an A4 you can tune out all of your bucking by adjusting when your tranny lock's up, and adjust your 1/2/3 shift RPM/speed. Have a decent stall! M6 cars need gears for putt putt driving, period.

Is the cam worth doing? depends on your goals. if you want every last HP out of it, then yes, IMO it's worth doing. It was worth 17 RWHP over my TR230 cam. It has a strong top end that works great with 4.30+ gears on a M6 N/A...Even my A4/3.23 gear car it works well and traps almost 120 MPH.

exactly, it all depends on the setup. after looking at your overlay against the 230 i wouldnt of swapped cams for a minimal gain @ 5500+, but if its intended for the track where 4k and below arent seen then its worth it i guess.

The t-rex is ground on a 110 LSA. That is a significant amount of overlap. You will be blowing half of your n20 out the exhaust valve during overlap! Why don't you choose a cam that is designed to work well with your n20? Your motor will thank you.

Not ture. Yes there is a lot of overlap but it's fine for small to medium shots, say under 200. We did some dyno testing a few days ago with a T-Rex and a TNT 150 shot. On the gas it made 152 to the ground, just about what you would expect. Now if we are talking a 250+ shot then yes we can tweak the cam for a little better performance on the nitrous.

Your right! If I didn't have a forged bottem end to handle 7400+ RPM, I wouldn't have gone with the Trex personally, and it was more of an experiment, I really didn't know what to expect. The cam is for high RPM, not stop and go traffic and I knew that. There were no gains on the bottom end over the TR230, in fact it was lower, but from 5500 up, I think it was better than just minimal gains, it killed the TR230 IMO. It was more evident at the track when I gained 2 MPH over my TR230 on a day with a much higher DA and still using crap 3.23 gears. There's lots of good cams out there, just need to pick one that fit's your application..
