Default In the process of removing dash....can't get one area free

I've gotten all the bolts that I can tell to remove the dash. There is one spot near where the 2nd cup holder is that I can't seem to get to budge at all. The rest of the dash is pretty loose.

Once I get that free, do I just tug on it? The front part is the only part that comes off, right? By that I mean the area of the dash that is up near the windshield doesn't come off. Thanks for your help!

Your right, the area that butts to the windshield does not come out.

There is (1) screw that you need to remove from the engine bay. It's right in the center. That could be what is holding you up. Did you remove that?

There are also 2 screws just in fron of the area you are talking about that need removed.

If you are still having problems I'll take a few pics. Let me know.

I just fought through that myself. If it's the one I'm thinking of you need to tip the top of the dash back (out) and reach your arm down in there with a 7mm nut driver or equiv. and find the screw. I could see the end of it, but I couldn't get to the head of it until I tipped the dash back.

good luck!

Thanks for the tips guys. I think I've got all the bolts out now, I just need to drop the steering column. Which bolts do I unbolt to drop it? The ones at the firewall or the pair farther up the column?

i managed to get mine out with just removing the bolts farther up the column, but its a pain in the ars getting the dash around the column. if you have the time, pull the steering column. when i pulled the dash, i removed the dash and metal bracing all at once as i couldnt find the ONE bolt holding me up. good luck

and also, keep track of where all you wires are routed. it can be tricky getting them all back in the same place if you didnt know how they went before.

Madman took out my heater box, all the air ducks, pass side air bag and the monsoon stereo system.

Airbag is out, now to just get the heater.... Is it the box to the far right or the one directly to the left of that?

All I removed for the airbag is the bag and metal that is directly attached to it. Is there more that I can remove? Thanks!

How long did it take you to get the dash out? I am going to be going to be removing the pass airbag and bracketry as well soon. (I might remove all HVAC stuff too heheh)
thanks,
Chris

It didn't take that long to actually remove it. I spent more time looking around trying to find screws and junk like that then I did working on it. I've spent maybe three hours straight working on it so far and I'm almost ready to get it back together.

I want to remove the entire HVAC system, there is probably 20 pounds of it, but I keep thinking about the windshield fogging up when it rains or it being really hot and raining, etc.

Tom the roofer installed a lightweight summit heater just for windsheild defrost. I am going to look into getting that
Cheers,
Chris

Yeah, I was looking into the Summit heater idea. Don't really need it right now though. Hmm, how bad do I want it.....we'll see what happens. Chances are, I'll get out there and rip it all out. Then tomorrow I'll get mad at myself for turning my daily driver into a race car.

Okay, so I can remove the heater core and keep the rest of the system though, right? Will that get rid of the junk in the engine compartment too? Or do I have to remove it all? Thanks!

Okay, I've got the dash pulled away about 6-8 inches. Can I remove the passenger airbag and heater core with that much room?

Now that I've got the dash pulled away, I'm not sure what to remove. lol, could someone explain what I need to remove?
