Everything that Tony @ AFR writes makes perfect sense and I am sure he can back it up. But I am waiting to see what EDELBROCK will be offering.

the heads have barely been out, only a few people are running the 205's and have posted numbers. those are more important then any shop numbers. Tony has already addressed the 205's and stated that over a properly ported 5.3/5.7 the gains will be minimal or on par. the 225's should be the big ticket numbers but they arent out yet. a few sponsors have gotten a hold of the bare castings (200's), i believe TEA got 346cfm out of them and had a FI guy pushing 1000rwhp with them.

I agree.
There was one shop that called them into question based on one poor dyno and Tony set the record strait on what the heads were - Then these heads came off the map for whatever reason.
Vendors are not posting numbers (even AFR) and you know they would. Not since those good numbers came up with shaved heads & notched pistons (and whatever else LGM did). I assumed LGM would champion these like their kick butt headers but that has not even come close to happening.
Maybe it is more profitable for vendors to continue porting stock castings to similar results.

I was all set to drop the cash on these a few weeks ago. I figured I would call some of the local shops that I trust to see what they have done with these. Everyone said the same thing they are making just about the same hp as most stage 2 heads but not any better. The advise I got was to stick with my heads as I defintly wouldnt see any gains and mght see a small loss. I will also add They did say they highly recomend them for forced induction cars and they are a high quality head. I figured I would wait for the 225`s before I moved on these. Hopefully soon they will be available

I have a set in hand I recieved yesterday. First impressions:
1: Very substantial. More meat everywhere, deck, waterjackets, walls, etc.
2: Very clean castings. No pinholes I could readily see.
3: Very nice porting job. They look like jewels.
4: Complete with Patriot Gold duals, titanium retainers, and seats.
5: I'm using Harland Sharp 1.7's and the heads will need the sidewalls clearanced due to interference.
6: I don't know what the valve cover clearance will be also. I have to pull mine check.

I had them shaved and will be using an .040" Cometic Gasket. Compression should be around 11:1. I'm using a Comp 224/228 .581/.588 112+2. One point of note. These heads really are LS1 Stage 1 and 2 upgrades, not LS6, hence the 205cc intake runner. They are geared more to the street and not race. The flow numbers bear this out. There was one tuner that ported these out further and got 346cfm (see jrp's response above). I wanted more of a street head than an all out race head or else I would've bought the 225's when they cam out and used a bigger cam. These heads with the associated proper cam are probably better suited to a stock bottom end. There was a 03 vette that ECS did with a set of these heads and a G5X3 that did 449rwhp. I don't know if they played games with cr/shaving or thinner gaskets. pdd did 435 with his setup. When the 225's come out I'll bet based on the 205's numbers there will be some very impressive gains to be had using these heads, especially with bigger cams, but I think you'd better have forged internals for the kind of power they are going to produce. I will post my results when the smoke clears in a few weeks. I need time in the shop and I've got to convert an automatic RX7 to a 5 speed this weekend.

How much exactly did you mill them to achieve 11:1 w/ the .040 cometics ?

I went .010" that comes out to 64.34cc combustion chamber. I did compression volume using math, not a burette. I'm assuming .008" out the hole @TDC. The reason I didn't mill more was the 112lsa cam and that lobe lift with 2.020 intake valve on a 110ICL with a .040 gasket. I don't want to notch the pistons unless I absolutely have to. I also have a set of .052" gaskets, just in case.
