Default 5.3l

is the 5.3l engine out of the silverado aluminum? is it possible to put 6.0l heads on a 5.3l to drop the compression for f/i? is the block/internals as good as the 5.7l as far as durability goes?

The 5.3 is iron block/aluminum heads. Has the same crank/rods in it as 5.7 and 6.0 crank. The 4.8 has the same block as the 5.3 just a shorter stroke crank.

The block in an SSR is aluminum, but the ones in the trucks are iron.

Interesting, did not know that. Speaking of the shorter stroke 4.8 crank, dont mean to hijack, be a great cheap rpm engine with that crank/rod in a 6.0 block/pistons. BTW, the rods are also longer in the 4.8 to take up the difference in the crank stroke.

thanks for the replies. so would it be a good FI engine?? with 6.0 heads i guesstimate it would give a 8.5-9.0:1 compression? can these blocks be bored over to 5.7l? I understand that more cubes=more power but 5.3s and 4.8s are dirt cheap. the wiring harness, is the same for these motors right? you could take an ls1 long block and and interchange it with the 5.3?
