Mines sounded like that for 50k miles. The gears are just a little loose in the carrier. Not a huge deal.

Yeah, mine's noisy, too. My old WS6 also had the noise. Like he said, nothing to get too worried about.

Although it's not supposed to be required on Z/T carriers, the GM Posi Trac additive is supposed to help quiet them.

Can you describe the noise in more detail? I have been getting a clunking noise only on left turns. I was getting a little wheel hop at the track last week and after that it started.

I have the rear cover off now and can't see anything obviously broke. The gears inside the carrier SEEM to be OK.

I just swapped some 4.10s in and now Im getting the Left hand turn whine. The differential was always silent before the gear swap. Im still breaking in the gears with a non synthetic gear oil. Once I put mobil1 and the LSD additive back in, ill worry if the noise is still there. I also have just the slightest hum @ 55 with these gears, but i never notice it unless in trying to listen for it.

I have that EXACT same noise, and have had it for about 20K miles on my current stock rear end. I've never run drag radials, but I do have a RAM Powergrip HD clutch that grabs pretty hard, and I haven't broken anything yet, and this is with some pretty hefty 6K RPM downshifting to second dumps. The noise isn't getting any better, but it really isn't getting any worse either.

Personally, I think it is on borrowed time, and have plans of a 12 bolt after the first of the year. There are a lot of people that have this type of noise, but it never really bothers anything unless you run a sticky tire.

Take this for what it's worth...

i do have an extended car warranty... but my mechnec says i should wait till i blow up the rearend first... i he thinks they will send an adjuster out to look at the parts....if they find a damagged part..im clear..but if they dont...im left paying for the teardown of the rearend...

any thoughts or opinions???

thanksa lot guys!
