Default I took apart my stock heads to see this...

Any ideas what could cause this? Hotcam with 918's and hardened pushrods. I dont know when it happened, but I drove probably 30k miles on that cam. There were only 2 valves that looked like the one on the left.

There wasnt even so much as a nick in the piston or the valve when I cleaned them all up so I have no clue.

That's really weird. Glad you're okay though. Could have been much worse.

Besides the seals(?), I'm not quite sure what I'm looking at...

EDIT: I get it now. Possible valve float hammering down on the seal...

When you changed your springs, did you use the new spring seats?

Didn't crank down too hard with the spring tool, right?

I assume you're talking about the mushroomed seal? Probably compressed the spring too much during the install.

Did you put 30K miles on a single set of 918s or have you changed them out?

Even if he had 30k on those 918's, they should have been just fine on a hotcam. TR's had 918's go over 60k with no issues.

Sorry about the confusion, but the springs only had about 10-15k max. The cam and the rest of the valvetrain had about 30k on em. The guides were fine when the springs were installed and I never went past stock rev limiter so I have no clue. Oh well, got some duals in there now with LS6 valves so now if I could just get the damm clutch fixed again, I might be able to drive it...

^^^^^^^ This is one of my votes, but also having 15+ yrs working cyl heads, I have seen where the valve guides aren't the same height. as little as .050 can cause this. I always cut the top of my guides down .100" just to be safe and the PC seal still has clearance at the bottom and I make sure they are all the same height from the spring seat.

Yeah, I figured that one out about 10 miles after the install and compensated with shorter pushrods.
