Default quick question about the TR224

Next spring i plan on getting the TR224 112lsa cam. Should i go with the single valve spring package or the double valve package? I want to try to keep the cost down as low as possible. However if the double valve package is absolutly neccasry for this cam, then i guess i'll have to spend the extra dough.

I know people will say 918 singles work fine, but for piece of mind, go for the duals as I did.

I have single 918 springs in mine. I have raced without any problems going on 2 years now. But I plan on changing them this winter. Just for a piece of mind. I have at least 100 runs on this setup. Maybe I'm just lucky!

Both will work fine. It's just that a single failure is more dramatic in general than a dual one.

I love my LS1 and feel safer at night knowing I have duals holding my valves. I used to run the C918's but after 4800 miles they had lost too much spring pressure and I did not feel comfortable leaving them on there so I replaced them with Patriot Duals.

Save your money, 918's should work good with TR224. The lift still gives the 918 plenty of room. I just installed TR227 with 918 springs, run's & feel's good. Im still tuning in my shift points (6700).... When I started planning my cam change the list just kept growing ($$$). You'll end up spending alot more then you planned, You have to draw a line somewhere? I was set up for the timing chain swap also but my stock one was well within limits. If your going to buy a spring tool look into the crane one, It worked great 2hr from the first spring to the last. Good luck..

If I'm not mistaken, the 224 cams are running .580's range lift. I would say go with the lighter single springs for sure. My cam has .600 lift on it's intake side, and Thunder Racing still recomended me the 918's. People like to argue with that, but the guys at TR know their stuff. Their business depends on it. They told me mine should be checked every 30k miles. But they've seen them hold fine for well over 60k miles on my lift. 918's are the way to go.

Cappy, whats up with the For Sale sign?

Oh and 918's should work just fine, but if you want the peace of mind that your motor will survive a spring failure, go with duals.

Yeah, it sucks to let a car go, but I've always wanted a 6 speed. I was 2 seconds from buying some headers to put in w/ my cam, but got some sense smacked into me. So now I'm waiting on a 6 speed to mod.

I have the TR224, running 918's for about 8,000 miles, they seem fine right now, I shift at 6700, cam seems to drop off anything after that. I wish I had dual springs though, soon when I go to a bigger cam I will be putting duals in.

dual springs=piece of mind....if your tryin to save a little money, i would wait a little longer on the cam install and get what you need before doin it...so your not rushin just to have a cam. everyone can tell you its ok to run singles but whats gonna happen if your one of the missfortunate ones to have a spring break on you....more problems than you need...just my .2cents...goodluck.
