I had a level 4 FLP 4L60E in my car. For some reason at normal driving speed accelerating onto a freeway on ramp the timken bearing in the low/reverse planetary let loose.
I only had about 3000 miles on it and about 5 1/4 mile runs. Now doing a TH400 reverse manual valve body trans brake swap with a Frank Lupo 4200 stall TC.
Anyone want to buy a broke level 4 FLP 4L60E?
$500.00 plus shipping you fix it. Cost $2200.00 new!

All I can say is WOW. That tranny kicks ***. Shifts so quickly compared to stock with shift kit, yet without jerking. So far I love it. $1995+exchange.
I'll know by the end of this month how it does at the track.
Call Chuck at FLP he can give you all the details.

Was just wondering how hard it feels or shifts..
Mine seems to not have the neck snapping/ *** in the trunk 1-2 shift.
Might the converter if its bad or inefficient or too low STR be eating up the shifts??

My 1-2 is super quick. You wont bealive it. It never shifted this quick ever. Even the 2-3 and 3-4 shifts are very quick. I am VERY happy with my FLP tranny thus far.

How well do these built trannys handle downshifts. I do most of my abuse on the streets so it sees plenty of downshifts. It seems most of these built trannys are built for 1/4mi passes and will hold up great if you abuse them down the 1/4 all day but will break pretty easy when they have to downshift. Any thoughts on that??

I think your expecting it pop into gear when it shifts..... it doesnt do that, its a softer shift but it shifts quickly. During my years of racing I have noticed that a good transmission shifts quickly and smoothly. Yet a transmission that shifts hard gives better peice of mine it isn't doing anything better than the smoother quicker shifting tranny.

Well VS trannies with shift kits that tremendeously increase line pressure, an FLP is vacuum modulated and pressure is preset (not dependent on pcm input which can go either too high or too low).
My question is, what cam are you running and do you have enough vacuum?
also what type of vacuum line are you running and where from? The old plastic one had a tendency to collapse, therefore affecting shifts.

Yep mine is a smooth, quick shift. It doesnt shift hard.
I moved my Vacuum modulated vaccum source off the brake booster and moved it to another vacuum source on the intake. Still runs and shifts fine and the brake feel better.

ALways going to pick up HP with the TQ locked. Your car could lose 10 hp anywhere..
Mine at WOT will bark the tires between gears, but its still a smooth-quick shift.
I think that is what gives these trans the life to stand behind 500-700rwhp cars. I would take a 10hp loss to have more life and duarablity to the trans.

Like I mentionned before, I've had my old stock tranny with 100% Hypertech firmness increase and it was brutal. 've ridden in a stock trannied car with Transgo shifter, and almost same brutal feeling, but with FLP, that is not the case, just super quick shifts and downshifts. A little firmer than stock, I mean you can feel the gears going in, but no roughness at all.

Preditor Z....
I am not flaming you but I am looking at my options hoping that the 4L60e can withstand my H/C 150 shot car. 475 mustanG dyno hp. Who know show much torque but it will be more than hp. You chime in on every post like flp is the ****. How many track passes have you made? What are your 60';s? How many miles?
My performance shop tells me a 4l60e wont hold my car. I believe them for the most part but would mind paying 2 grand if it lasted al teast 2 years. If you are reading guys and you know who i am this is just wishful thinking. I make about 10 passes a month. I also attend a cruise or 2 or like to go out for a Sunday drive. That is why I dont like the no overdrive option.
Every else with a rosler/rock-on/flp chime in. Will it last 2 years of beating at my power lvls? After that i will surely have something bigger and badder in store.
