LS1 BU,
Yes it is. It is built from the same 245mm core that we build our SSF 3500 converter from. It just has a looser stator in it...and a different impellor.
Be sure to let us know how yours does.

NEVDAVE,
I've been into racing for the last 15 years...I've been in the high performance transmission and torque converter industry for the last 9 years here at TCI. I have a BS in Mechanical Engineering. I do the design work and R&D for TCI for all of the new converters (and a few other products as well). I'm not involved with sales.
Thanks,
Kevin

Convertor is much looser than my tci 3800. Shift extension is around 5300-5400. Convertor should hit pretty hard of the line.

Thanks for the quick response i am looking at my options on converters and noticed your is much cheaper priced than the vig and yank converters.
Do your converters like your SSF3500 have a billett front cover and our they all furnace brazed inside? I don't understand how your quality can be as good if the cost is that much lower. I want to make shure that what we are comparing is oranges to oranges. Also i have heard that your converters have a higher TIR on the impeller hub what are your standards. When i spoke to yank they said that they roller burnish all of there hubs on there ls1 converters do you?
I understand that this extends the seal and bushing life in the transmission pump.

You're welcome. Our standard SSF3500 doesn't include a billet cover...that's an option. All of our converters are furnace brazed. In addition to this, we also hand braze the turbine blades. Our TIR standards are better than the OE standards. Our LS1 converters are typically .005" or less. We only use ground, heat treated Sonnax Process 90 hubs. We've been in the business since 1968, so we have been able to streamline our manufacturing processes. We also purchase our materials in bulk. This gives us quantity discounts. We also have customer service that is second to none.
Thanks,
Kevin

What was the shift extension of your 3800?

Do you have locked vs unlocked dyno numbers?

HOW MUCH IS YOUR BILLETT COVER OPTION ON THAT CONVERTER? ALSO CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT KIND OF CLUTCH MATERIAL YOU USE AND DOES IT HAVE MORE SURFACE AREA THAN OEM. I AM LEANING TOWARDS YOUR NEW SSF4000 WHAT KIND OF TEST DOCUMENTATION DO YOU HAVE TO BACK UP STR AND EFFICIENCY.HOW MUCH DOES THIS MODEL COST BASE PRICE?

NEVDAVE,
You must be a lawyer...I can certainly tell that you've done your homework. That's a good thing, because it mean the difference between having a mediocre combination and having a record setter. The base price is for the 4000 is around $540 (again, I'm not in sales...they get mad at me when I give out pricing. I guess I price stuff too cheap.) The billet cover adds $125 to the price. We use a proprietary carbon based material for our LS1 lockup clutches. It is wider than the factory lining.

We test all of our new converters in our R&D dyno room. We've invested over $500,000 in a state-of-the-art converter/transmission test lab. We collect data such as Efficiency, STR, Fluid Flowrate through the converter, Temperature of the fluid going into and coming out of the converter (delta T), Temperature of the converter body, Coupling point, and of course, Stall Speed.

Thanks,
Kevin

My 3800 had a shift extension at 5,000 rpm. I only have unlocked numbers.

you gained a lot of shift extension, its's no surprise that it feels looser.
