Default Lockin the Torque Converter....

Does anyone know of a kit that lets me do this, I know people add a TC lockup switch, but who makes it, or how do they make it? A buddy of mine gain .3 in the 1/4 with it locked. So I wanted to do the same thing, and I can't get a hold of him, and I am impatient.

Thanks guys.....and gals too.

You need to tap into the computer and tap off the lock up wire or known as the TCC wire. Just run a wire from the computer to a toggle switch and ground it. Just remember when you keep it grounded and forget to flip the switch it will stall your motor so just remember to turn it off when your done.Happy locking it up i do all the time in the big end.

First, if you are not running a turbocharger or supercharger or have a excessively loose torque converter, and you are lowering your ET in the quarter mile, then the torque converter is not matched to your engine/rear end end/tire combination. When a torque converter is correctly matched, you will run the quickest & fastest in the quarter mile with the torque converter unlocked. In every test that we have done, (making comparisons between locked & unlocked torque converters in the quarter mile) the unlocked way were always faster & quicker.

I dont see why you would want it locked when racing. shouldnt it be unlocked? the purpose of locking is to put the engine in lower rpm's for cruising.. ???

If you have access to tuining software your better off having the pcm lock it at a set point, that is if your converter was designed to lockup at WOT. Normally you'd need to be running a lot faster before locking up a converter at WOT will benefit.

actually, i want to unlock it. the lockup on my converter has taken a ****...and it chatters when its in lock up. i dont drive the car much...but if i do take the car out id like to shut the lockup off at least till i get the verter fixed.

and for those that feel a lockup converter is not bennefit...you have just never set up/geared a car to make it become a bennefit. but that isnt what im looking to do here. plus with my loose converter...when i do get the lockup fixed on it...it'd be nice to be able to lock it when i want in normal driving.

thanks

As I understand though once the switch is inactivated it will go into normal computer operation. I thought the switch was basically only for when u want to LOCK the converter not to unlock it

Well I'm not really sure on that one, but I think that if the computer doesnt get some kind of input it would just go into a default mode. But I'm sure someone could answer that question completely

DONT DO IT. Most converters used in these cars use a 245mm to 300mm conversion. The clutch in the 245 is NOT strong enough to handle high horsepower for much if any time. I blew up a converter with my lockup switch. It is a BAD idea. As far as cutting time by locking it up, that can be accomplished by changing to a more efficient stater (lower str). To me it sounds like you are just running an ineffecient converter to begin with.
