Default 2002 exhaust manifold question

Can anyone tell me the purpose of the large lug on the side of the passenger side manifold is?
I am building a streetrod and want to remove this lug, but I don't want to do something I'll regret.
Thanks

Lug?

If you're talking about the blind boss on the side,
I think that's where the 2000s had the EGR bung
but '01-'02 do not have it tapped. It does appear
to be cast hollow so I wouldn't go too nuts with
the grinder.

There are also several threaded bosses which are
for heat shield mounting.

Thanks for the info.
I guess I'll just clean it up and leave it alone.

Just out of curiosity, why not a nice set of
polished stainless long tubes? Hell, get 'em
chromed and let 'em blue up like a hot rod
should. Side pipes, even.

Clearance problems with tube headers is the simple answer.
