Default wacky gauges

Here lately when I turn my switch on to start my car the gauges jump around like a **** and then settle down. Also my trip meter keeps resetting itself.

Has anyone experienced this? If so, what did you find was the problem?

BTW, my car has been throwing a P0430 code lately so I dont know if the service engine light being on has anything to do with it or not. I just keep resetting the computer to clear the code because Im soon gonna have headers and will be deleting a bunch of stuff including the cats and rear o2's.

Let me guess, your car is a `99 model. Been there, done that. Some `99s had bad clusters that when cold would reset when first started. You'll notice this brought up a lot during the winter. Its just a bad cluster and the only way to fix it is to replace it. Mine got worst over time to where even if it was a cooler summer morning it would reset.

The bad news is they aren't cheap; good news is it doesn't hurt anything if you can stand to be without a trip OD.

GM issued a service bulletin on the 99's for the guage cluster resetting. Try searching for it on here because this site is where I originally saw the link about the TSB. (And then go talk to your dealer about replacing the cluster.)

All of my gauges seem to be normal however I am a bit baffled as my 98Z temp gauge rarily goes past 1/4... it runs very cool.

Yes, there is one but a TSB just means they know there's a problem and this is how to fix it. They didn't recall it unfortunatly so if you're out of warranty you're SOL.
