Default clanking in the rear

every time my automatic car downshifts from 2nd to first it makes this clanking noise...or popping noise...only once though...or if i'm going slow in a parking lot and it shifts to second it will do it as well...what is the deal...rear-end broken?

Have you checked your universal joints? What about the transmisson mount?

Both are pretty easy to change, and arent to expensive.

Its also easy to change the fuid in the rear. You can take a look in there but I dont think it come from there. It probably needs changing anyway.

I'm on my 3rd LS1 Trans Am and they all have done the same thing. I've asked dealerships and numerous individuals ... usually get the same answer. I even had my 3.73 gears installed and they do it, too. As long as it's not a hard hammer sound or crunching sound, I think it's OK. Check your front seal where the driveshaft connect to the rearend to make sure it hasn't leaked fluid out, as the other dude said may have happened. If your fluid is OK, then, it seems to be normal to me.
