Default How much hp/torque can the 4l60e handle?

Im planning on adding a cam as my next mod, but my biggest concern is my tranny. My friend put in a g5x3 and his tranny started slipping withing the first two weeks. So, how much can the 4l60e handle saftley, and do you think i'd be alright going with a tsp 231/233 or a futral 228/228 as far as the tranny goes, or should i be looking a little smaller, like a tr224?

I'm not sure but I know there are some people making good power and still run the stock tranny.. If you haven't already done so, you should post this in the Automatic Transmission section. Hopefully someone there can help you.

I made about 450rwtq on the hose with my 4L60E back when I had an LS1. It was starting to slip at 50,000miles. That was after a **** load of nitrous was run through it.

Yep, the nitrous started to make my 2-3 shift slip!

The transmission can slip from input torque, but
it also is "managed" to have as little excess line
pressure as "necessary" to hold that torque. Any
mod that messes up the PCM's estimation of torque
(which would include, well, just about anything
worth doing) can put real torque above estimated
by enough that you will slip. Furthermore the 2-3
shift programming just plain sucks anyway, from
factory. Using something like a MAFT to lean out
the car can also be telling the trans that the load
is less than reality. So will ported MAF / MAF ends.
So will mods that up the output relative to the
intake airflow (like brake specific air consumption,
think of it).

Too much slipping under power will probably glaze
up the clutches (at best). Once that happens it's
degenerative.

I adjusted my trans shift and holding pressure
profiles for more authority. Not to mention the
lame shift times.
