Default click click boom! First C6 and then a Z06, in the same day!

C6:
Crusin down a 3 lane highway on my way to go get some taco bell, I see some familar, yet different looking corvette taillights a few cars up. I weave around for a few seconds and as I get up there my hopes come true; it is a new C6 vette. Silver with absolutely no license plates that I could see (uh oh), and a chick behind the wheel. At first I was disappointed because it is not often a woman in a vette will race period, let alone if they didn't have tags. That all changed when I saw the nose of the vette fly up and lunge forward. We played around back and forth for a few minutes until finally we came up to a light next to each other (and some annoying reject kid in a mazda 6 who thought he could play?). Anyways, light turns green and I ease out feeling her out and seeing if she'll go. At first nothing, but around 10mph I see the nose go up again and I hit it. Wound out first gear catching up to her slight lead, slammed second and started pulling a lot harder then I thought I would. By the shift to third (~60) she was already at least 1-2 cars back and falling .... I let off a little bit in the beginning of third to see if she was still in it, and she started catching up real quick so I assumed she was and hit it again. I let off right before the end of third (~85ish) when I had a good solid 2-3 car lead and had plenty of room to slip infront of her to confirm the victory (along with blow some oil smoke in her face and avoid some up coming slow traffic in the right lane).

Z06:
This one was short, and sweet. Pulled in behind him at a stop light going to turn right. Light turns green and he takes off pulling hard around the corner, I follow suit a few cars back. I watch his *** end kick out hard as mine starts to do the same (probably should have been paying more attention instead of watching the vette), but the nitto's get a grip when we're pretty close to even with each other and I go WOT around 10-15 mph. I'm slowly reeling him in, by the shift to second we're even .... by the shift to third (60ish) i'm about a half car up .... we ended about halfway through third with me slightly ahead of him (about a car - car 1/2), which I thought was pretty damn good considering I was coming from behind.

No juice in either race, just a ton of burning oil ...

I saw a black c6 on the road today. Old guy. Wouldn't even look at me. I'm sure I would've gotten my *** kicked, but at least it would have been fun. Bah.

BTW, in case you havn't seen one yet, pictures do not do it justice. It's just plain BEAUTIFUL.

I agree, it is a sharp looking car, and I was completely taken in by how SHORT it looked. I really like the style of the rims as well.

As for the chick, she looked to be high 30's or so .... possibly cute but I'm not really into girls that old, I'm only 22 and there are plenty of hotties around my age.

haha I don't Overlook them ... I'm just not going to go out of my way, ya know?

As for the mods .... basically full bolt-on's, cam, ton of suspension ****, all trying to overcome the ridiculous weight of all the stereo ****. I have some juice for those special occassions, but rarely get a chance to use it.

Reason I am so curious is b/c C6's and Z06's are my main target goal

Pretty commonly accepted that a tad over 400rwhp will get you to be able to run with a Z06, and by my experience if you can beat a Z06, a C6 should be no problem.

a tad over 400rwhp to be able to run with a Z06? I'm pretty sure Z06's dyno around 350rwhp (Same with C6's). Granted they have a big weight and aero advantage but, I don't think we need an additional 50rwhp just to be able to hang with one. I was thinking a TR224 + all bolton's and about 380rwhp would give me a slight edge on one.

That must be a pretty big cam you are running if you are over 400rwhp with stock heads.

1. If you already "know" the answer, why did you ask ?
2. 01 Z06's are usually in the 350rwhp range, while the 02+ Z06's are all in the 365rwhp range.
3. Yes you are right, they have a huge weight advantage, and a big aero advantage as well ... which is why it requires the extra power to hang with one.
4. I am sure it is completely possibly to beat a Z06 with less then 400rwhp, but with ~400rwhp you should have a pretty solid chance at beating one.
5. Yes, I do have a very large cam, and stock heads.

Nice kills man!
I'd say average weight of a F-body would be in the 3500 range and z06s come in at 3118lbs. So you need a ~40rwhp advantage to hang, BUT from a roll the weight isnt as big of a factor as from a stop.
Z06s are freaks though some trap 111mph and some trap 118mph stock LOL.

I don't understand your first question. I didn't specifically ask you what power level someone needs to beat a Z06. (Not that I didn't appreciate your input on the matter). What I asked was about your mods and how much rwhp you were pushing b/c I was curious about this specific situation here. I think its good to continue to take in as many case examples as you can to make better judgements.

Anyhow, thanks for the input.

Z06's are one of my favorite cars, and probably the only thing I would sell my car for. I have raced at least a dozen of them, and they never cease to amaze me. 400rwhp is a pretty solid figure to be able to hang with a Z06, and I figured that answer is a better one then throwing cam specs and other info at you. A 224/112 cam is a nice proven and true cam, and some people pull some crazy numbers with it. I have went through 3 cams, and a 224 was one of them .... I can tell you from experience that I do not think that cam had the potential to take out a 02+ Z06, although it would surely hang with one. I was trying to be helpful, and I'm sorry if I came off like an A-hole, it wasn't intended at all.
