Default My 98 Z28 vs C6 corvette

I went to the local track last night to take advantage of some cool air this weekend. My previous best was a 13.28 @103.33 w/1.929 60ft. I was hoping to get a 12 sec time slip. I had added a SLP dual/dual catback and did the TB bumpstop mod. There was a brand new Black C6 Vette 6spd running also. He made quite a few passes but I never got a chance to watch him to see what it was running. I ran a string of 13.0s through the night and heard he was running low 13s also. On my last pass of the night I thought it was gonna be a bi-run and then i see him pull up beside me in the staging lane. Two motorcycles ran ahead of us and one of them took a spill. It took a few minutes for the safety crew to get him up and get the bike off of the track. He was okay and the bike did'nt look too bad.
We finally get to burn out and stage up, I knew if he ran low 13s it would be a good race. I am anticipating the lights and not wanting to let him get out on me. I cut a good light and got out on him on the green. He slept on the light a little and at the finish line I had him by about 5 car lengths. That was the first one I've seen in person and I got to spank it too!! hehe!
I ran a 13.041 @ 105.53 w/1.908 60ft to his 13.215 @ 109.44 w/ 2.164 60ft
I know with better 60ft times he could spank me, but I got the win light!!

nice kill, but he must have really slept at the light for a 5 car lenght victory with a .15 margin between the slips.

nice. even on stock tires i would of thought a c6 would be in the mid-ish 12's. a 01 zo6 was at the track STOCK he got a best of 12.5 and was running 12.7's all day. that new c6 should be faster then a 01 zo6(right?) anyhoo, nice kill.

That's kind of what I was thinking. BTW, nice kill.

No, I hang out out over the corvetteforum.com and the C6's are not proving to be as stout as the Z06's. Not sure what all the factors are but for starters i think they have slightly more power and a little less weight. Either way, its kind of known over there that the new C6's are not quite up to par with 01+ Z's stock for stock.

I really expected the C6 to at least get some high 12s. I talked to him after our run and he said he was really having trouble launching with the stock tires. He said his best 60ft was a 2.03 with the traction control on! Plus the car only had 357 miles on it , so I'm sure they were still learning how the car reacts. They were having fun with it anyway. They hot lapped it all night long , must have ran it at least 10-12 times in a two hour period! I'm sure with a 1.9-2.0 60ft he would have ran 12.80 or so.

I spend most my time over on the corvetteforum and its true most normal ppl are getting low 13's out of their c6s. Its kind of sad actually. I think the best so far has been a 12.7 @somethin. It is possible to get into the 12s but not too many ppl have been doing it. Also depends on z51 or not as gearing changes. Everyone seems to think that with more time and as ppl get better at driving them, more miles get put on the cars, and more ppl start taking them to the track the times will go down. Of course there are intake/header cars running low 12s and head/cams or nitroused c6s running in the mid to low 11's right now so the future is promising. It seems so far that the ls2 likes mods just as much as the ls1. ANother problem is that there is no tuning software out there yet so times should only get better.

I don't think it's sad at all, the car is brand new what do you guys expect. If someone is running a 12.7 bone stock than what does that tell you? The potential is definitely there. Give it time. The car from the factory has got 350rwhp and weighs 3100lb's. Trust me...it's fast. Sad? Not by a long shot.
