Default is 3,900.00 alot for building and installing motor/trans

Just got the quote today from the shop that is building my 402. They are charging me about $3900.00 in labor. Is this too much. It includes building the motor, installing it, custom port job on the heads, and installing a rebuilt 4L60e
Does not include tuning.

Am i getting ripped??? Even bought the parts from him.

To compare, Fastech, a sponser that is local to me, quoted me $1200 to take my car, take the accessories off my current motor and swap the neccessary ones over to the new motor, and install the new motor into the car to a turn key, minus tuning. Hope that helps.

i think that it way to much for labor, now if that included the motor or parts then that is a different story! but i say you should either find a new place or get that price down!

does that include the labor to rebuild the trans?
if so then its not horribly high.
depending on what kind of head work you are looking at theres a grand right there.
figure another grand for engine/trans install
500-1000 to blueprint and build the motor.
and 500-1200 for whatever trans work they are doing.

need more detail.
What is exactly beingh done.
From what I got I agree with xttc2000.
You have to figure pull engine and tranny, rebuild motor which will cost money from the machine shop as well.
Head work which isn't cheep etc.
There is a lot that goes into doing this swap.

Sounds hight way hight to me.

I just got the buil on my motor.
New cam bearings. $20
New rod and main bearings $170 (could have gone with standerd once for 100 for both)
Bored 30 over and power hone $150
Vat the block $50 (not needed)
Blue print and balance $450
$850

Now with that said i bot the top of the line race bearings from them so you can count that in the bill. I had the block vatted witch you dont have to do. My good friend Matt Basket charges $600-700 to pull and swap everything motor, tranns, rod bolts, main studs and them install. Takes us 3 hours to pull a motor. That is car with everythink to motor on stand and in 30 mins the motor is apart. Takes 4-5 hours to stab it back in depending on how hard it gets to line it up. Now with that said. 600 for the install 850 for the motor balance that is 1450 i would have spent. Now you have to the heads. You dont know what they are going to do on them so lets say you are getting a set that cost $1600 that is now $3050. How much are they charging you to asemble a motor. $850 for asembly LOL way to much.

when you start figuring in machine shop work and head porting you are not in bad shape to have it done correctly

How much "building" is involved? Sounds like, at a minimum, you are having a shortblock finished up (cam, t-chain, pan, pump, heads: ported & assembled, IM, accessories including all sensors installed).

I'd say yer in the ballpark. Does this place have a good rep? Check 'em out @ http://search.bbb.org/search.html

As long as its a good reputable shop and they have done good work for you or someone you know in the past I would say that it's fair. Not cheap but fair!
