The LS1TECH '69 Camaro goes 10s!
Just got home from Houston Raceway Park. I only managed to make two passes, on the third attempt I raised the launch rpm up to around 6000 rpm (from 5500) and broke the driver's side axle shaft. Time for some bigger shafts, these are just stock 12-bolt shafts.
Anyways, here is the important info:
Car: 1969 Camaro SS, 6-speed manual, 348ci LS6, stage 2 heads, 232/232 cam, Magnacharger. 3.73 gears, Hoosier slicks on Pro Stars. Raceweight was 3435 lbs.
Weather conditions: 62F, 29.89 barometer, 39% humidity
First pass
60'=1.62 (13 psi cold tires, 5200 rpm clutch dump)
1/8=6.99
mph=101.42
1/4=10.88
mph=126.10
Came immediately back around and lined up again (no cool down)
60'=1.60 (no change in tire pressure, 5500 rpm clutch dump)
1/8=6.95
mph=101.05
1/4=10.87
mph=125.01
Did yet another lap, lined up, dumped the clutch at 6,000 rpm and POP goes the axle. It also managed to shred the supercharger belt when the axle broke, because the revs jumped up so quickly.
Well, my initial goals of running 10s with the blower are done. I'll be installing a fresh set of larger axles, larger spline count posi, and adding the NX nitrous kit next. Going for 9ssssss!
A friend video taped the 10.87 pass, probably have it up in a few days.
