SLP DD, no exhaust coming from driver's side tailpipe?
I bought this exhaust used from a guy last summer and never really paid much attention to it after the install. Now that it's getting cold outside, I'm noticing that no white smoke comes out of the driver's side tailpipe AT ALL on a cold start. I checked inside the tips and the pass. side is black but the driver's side is clean as a whistle.
I tried to dig into the tailpipe with a coat hanger to see if something was blocking it, but the coat hanger wasn't long enough to reach past the bend into the muffler. I couldn't see anything with a flashlight either...
There were some leaves and stuff in both tailpipes that were blown out right after we installed it. I'm thinking something might be in the muffler (either more leaves or a rat or something) blocking flow out of the driver's tailpipe. How could I check this and clear it out?

I believe I remember reading about a restrictor in the left side, take it to a muffler shop and have cut the pipe just outside the muffler, rmove the restrictor and weld it back together. Shouldn't costtoo much and will be worth the peace of mind.

Yep, I would say that you have what they call the "cone of silence." Do a search with that phrase and you will come up with a couple of good articles, one even has a picture of the cone after it has been removed, It is reduced down to about 1/2" ont he drivers side tailpipe. They say that the test that you need to do is straighten a coat hanger and run it up both tailpipes. It will go all the way in on the passenger but will get stopped on the drivers side. I bought a Dual/Dual from a guy that has a 2002 Firehawk and I did the hanger test and mine stopped the hanger on the drivers side. I am planning on taking it to a guy I know that does exhaust work to have it removed but I just haven't had time yet. Keep us posted on what you find out if you do it.

There is a restrictor, but the exaust was designed to work that way. If you remove the restrictor, most of the gas will then divert to the drivers side and you'll have the same problem, just oppisite sides. The D/D is one of the best catbacks out the way it is, so I wouldn't mess with it to much.

From what I understand, SLP only put the restrictor on the factory optioned cars with their exhaust for noise control. The Dual/Dual kits that you purchase direct from them from what I hear are louder than the kits put on the SS and Firehawk cars. From the articles I have read, the cars sound better with the restrictor removed. I think I am going to take a chance and have mine removed.

Check out the two links I posted above, I can't imagine that SLP would reduce one pipe down to only a 1/2 inch for any rason other than noise control. I don't know, without seeing the inside of the muffler, it's hard to tell what the path looks like. But I would imagine that since the restrictor is on the drivers side, it should be a straight through design on the back of the muffler going from the 3" inlet to the drivers side 2.5" outlet, where the ruducer is at. We'll find out, I am going to take my digital and document what is going on and let everyone know, if mine indeed has the "cone of silence."

I knew about the cone of silence on the 2otl kits but wasn't aware that they were also on some DDs! I will check into it after I install my LT headers, but this is probably what my problem is. Thanks for the info! I will keep you guys posted as to what I find! Unfortunately, I bought this kit used and don't know if it was from a factory-optioned car or the aftermarket.

No new updates on my Cone of Silence situation, but I did add the information to www.ls1sounds.com for both the dual-dual and 2otl kits.
