Default 99 z28vs 91 eagle talon tsi

I recently sold my 91 eagle talon to one of my friends, and thought it would be fun to run him. The talon is fwd 5spd it has a ported out stock turbo, boost controller running 19psi, full 3 inch exhaust downpipe and back, act 2100 racing clutch, greddy type s bov, aem intake with k&n filter, walbro255 fuel pump, welded differential, and even the o2 housing is ported. I have a completly stock 99 z-28 convertible automatic. So were on the highway, no cars around so we slow down to about 40, we go on 3 honks. We hit it exactly the same time, were goin through second gear complety even, i have complete traction, once the boost hits about 17psi and goin up he starts losing it, were even we go into 3rd gear, still even. At about 90mph i start to pull slowly on him, i assume at this point he musta gone into 4th cuz i really started to pull hard. So i let off. I was definetly impressed, weve had the talon up to about 143, then it struggles, ive had the camaro up to 165, but that took a decent amount of road. So im sure id kill him up top. All in all a good race. I was only able to pull a 14.2@100mph in the quarter, with a 60ft of 2.2. does that sound wrong, or is it that its a convertible auto killing me.

Nice kill.

Yeah, that time is a about right with that 60'. Cut the 60', cut the ET. You should not be running 14's at all, just stall it up and launch higher.

Aren't the TSI Talon's AWD? I thought they were the same thing as the GSX Eclipse?

TSi just means it's a Turbo Talon. It can be a FWD or an AWD. Now with Eclipses', it's specific. A GSX is AWD and a GSt is FWD. I would think the Talon would pull a little better than that though. I know my best run on the stock turbo was a 13.0 @ 104 (at 18psi) and my car is the heavier AWD.

Nice kill.

ya the talon isnt tuned at all, with an safc on the dyno, id say he would gain another 20-30hp, my buddies have a eclipse and talon turbo, one of them was at 258hp at the wheels, he got it tuned and bumped it up to 278 with a safe tune.

still thatcar should run high 13's with a k+n and free mods like a hacked maf and zip tie the boost line. those mods the talon should be in the low low 13's to high 12's

Why would u think that? My friend has a 1992 gsx he dynoed at 278hp at the wheels and 281pounds of torque at the wheels, and hes awd, and ran a 13.4......fwd get killed off the line, 1gear is absolutely nothing, second gear is spun all the way through, and a chirp in 3rd.

you musta had a factory beast cuz no dsm without engine work or an upgraded turbo without awd are gonna run low 13's. And wtf is zip tie the boost line, ive heard of looping the wastegate, is that what u meant?

^^^ It's possible. You just need DR's or slicks. I have seen it done. Hell there's a guy I know with just a MBC (set at 18psi) who just dropped his exhaust and added race gas in his stock AWD laser and ran a 13.1 @ 101mph. Nothing else done to it. Absolutely! Now that's a freak DSM.

you zip tie the line where it goes to the waste gate it lets less psi the the wastegate so it won't open. poor mans MBC.

No that's just 7 more psi, race gas, and no exhaust lol. Just think of what a factory freak it would be like without interior. Nice kills on the dsm. It's not your auto holding you back although the stock stall doesn't help and should definately go. The drop top is what's slowing you down. Nothing you can do about that except get more power and get new torque convertor.

This kid couldn't even drive. His 60's were in the 1.8x range. If he could cut low 1.7x's or even 1.6x's, it would run 12's. Not bad really for a 4 banger car that runs 14.8-15.2 bone stock. Taking almost 2 seconds off is impressive to me for doing only those mods.
