Default what muffler can I get just to replace the stock muffler and be as quiet as stock?

I am gutting the factory cats and replacing the factory muffler to get some extra HP . I am doing it to give it the stealth look and sound but the car should be in the 11's on the gas

also is it even worth spendin a $100 on another muffler and gutting the cats?

I mean if it is only going to give me 5 or 10 hp I will leave it all stock.

a stock muffler.

Actually, I can't remember who posted it, but if you do a search, there was a guy that found a muffler that flowed better than stock and was still stock sounding.

Your best bet would probably be to get an electric cut out. run a full stock exhuast, then flip the switch when you want the extra power.

ws6 and slp ss mufflers are supposed to flow better. i only picked up 7hp with my cutout over my ws6 exhaust ...most people pick up more.

well I think I am just going to leave the stocker on there if it is only gonna be worth 7 hp . all I want is low 12's or high 11's and with my lid , 125 shot converter , gear and tires should put me there easily and will still look completley stock

"...high 11's and with my lid , 125 shot converter , gear and tires should put me there easily.."

Me, too, mushroom, I wonder what the nitrous guys would say. Is this all it takes to run 11's? I'm guessing after my lid, pulley, vertor, and even a 125 shot it will be tough to do. I figured I'd be around 12.50 with all that. Probably need:
1.rear suspension
2.upgraded rear
3.serious tuning

anyone else with an opinion on this?

Thanks
Mike

well mike from what I have been reading some guys with 342s tires lid and a verter and some less hnve been going 8.0s in the 1/8th and 7.99 is 12.50 in the 1/4 and a 150 shot should be worth a second so that should be 11's easily with traction

someone correct me if I am wrong

SLP Dual/Dual

Won't find a better flowing stock muffler that flows as well as that....and is as quiet as that....

And no, the hooker is not as quiet as a mouse

I think the hooker muffler is the same size as the stocker. And not loud with a good flow.

I wouldn't go as far as saying "Its quiet as a mouse." The Hooker is kinda quiet at idle, but it wakes up when you get on it.

It does have a mellow to it, i did that when my car was stock. Welded just the hooker muffler. But, its not too too bad, but you can tell its not stock.

Gutting the cats will make your car louder
even if you keep the stock muffler.

Aerchamber mufflers are a bit louder than stock.

I ran 12.34 with my M6 with nothing but bolt-ons. Nitrous should easily put him in the 11's (traction being the only limiting factor). With the automatic he could run slicks at the track without worrying too much about the 10 bolt, you can pre-load the rear with the autos so it isnt as damaging.

"pre-load the rear" what does that mean?

You can still run headers and off road Y to your stock exhaust. Unless your trying to maintain the "stock" look even under the hood.

I use a Spintech cat back. It sounds just a liitle louder then stock. Similar sound to a flowmaster but isn't loud at all. Most of the time when I make a pass at the track people comment on how quiet it sounds. (note to self. update sig)

With autos you can mash the brakes and rev the engine up at the starting lights thus "preloading" the drivetrain so that when you let off the brakes and floor it, it is not as much as a shock to the rearend as say dumping the clutch from 5000 rpm is on an M6.
