Accident last night
Greets all,
I just had an accident last night as the title says, and have some questions.
The details are the car hydroplaned and spun and hit the wall pretty hard. The rear panel on the driver's side is messed up along with the driverside door being scratched and the driver's side mirror...
I am not so worried about the body but the rear end. The whole axle housing is moved over about 3 inches (guesstimation) and the panhard bar is bent into the muffler. The wheel on the passenger side is sticking out of the fender well and the driver side was rubbing.
Is this repairable?
Please say yes... I will try to get pictures later today, right now I am a little sore and heart broken...

Well, you should know that anything is repairable. It does not seem like your frame would be bent seeing as there really is no frame in the rear of our cars. If your rearend is still in tact (not cracked or anything major), It should be a matter of replacing the LCA's, Panhard bar, Sway bar, and really anything that links the rearend to the body, And ofcourse the cosmetic repairs. I feel really bad for ya man, hope it turns out well for ya.

Sorry, man - bummer ... Sounds like the unibody got torqued & twisted. Betcha they'll have to get it on the rack to straightened. But like everybody says, it's repairable. With today's technology they'll be able to get it dead on. You'll need to talk to your insurance agent - my guess is that this is not something you can do yourself.

Thanks all for the comments, my insurance already knows about it, I called them right after it happened. The "Ghost" is going into the shop tomorrow morning for estimates and repairs...
Both my wife and i are just hoping it is not totalled...

The facts are: I was going 60 mph on 101 south just past the airport and was changing into the number 1 lane (fast lane) when I must have hit a pool of water (it had just started raining again, and the back end came out. I was steering into the skid with my foot off of both the brake and accelerator when the front end must have hit a lane marker and began a yo-yo like spin. I spun 2 1/2 times across four lanes, through some bushes/woodchips, and hit the brick wall backwards on the driver's side.
I actually drove the car home, and picked up my truck to go pick-up my wife from work... The "Ghost" is more her car... I feel terrible because I have had plenty of skid recovery training, and high speed driver training, but could not pull the car out of this one...
My wife was in tears when I told her today about the axle housing... Hopefully it is repairable, because neither of us want to replace this car.

It is funny (not funny haha) I did something similar in my pick-up truck on a downhill in a rain storm in San Francisco while making a left turn the truck came all the way around 180 degrees and hit a curb bending the axle shaft flange...
That was easy I just ordered new bearings, new axle shaft, new seals, new rear brake components, and new gear lube and did the work myself... I would not even attempt this one...

You said that you took your foot off the brake and the gas. One thing to learn from this is that at high speed, taking your foot off the gas is like applying the brake lightly to the rear wheels. When I find myself into a skid, I push the gear lever into neutral if I'm driving an automatic, or push in the clutch on a manual trans car. On snow, this little technique can really help.
Glad to hear that you didn't get hurt.

I spun like you on the freeway coming onto it from the entrance. I had my radio jamming and had the exaust capped up so i really didnt see the rpms jump and a split second later i was spinning. I didnt do as much damage however i hit front and back. (almost had control of the spin and hit the wall kinda slow.) Rain is a killer on these cars. Good luck to you.

Sorry to hear that. It looks pretty repairable to me. I had the same thing happen to me one time, except there was traffic behind me. The force was with me I guess. You could have ended up in far worse shape. Good luck fixing her up!

i did sorta the same thing, with a semi right behind me, no wall though, just hit the curb twice, pulled a lawn job, and took out a water main, bent the axle houseing and shifted it an inch to the left, i really thought it bent the frame, but it was ok, destroyed two rims, hole in the oil pan(thats what hit the water main), minor body work, and the passenger side steering knuckle, was about $5000 total, insurance covered and the shop i took it too covered my deductable
