8 cyl. have black tops and mirrors.

I believe, but am not sure, that 96 was the only year that you could order a 8 cyl with body matching mirrors and top.

02 35th SS's have matching tops and mirrors..only ls1 car i can think of that has that.

I was actually contemplating painting the t-tops the same color as the car. With propper prep, I don't see why this wouldn't hold up as well as the painted body panels? Anyone ever do this?

I use to have a 95 z28 that was red with red roof and mirrors(no tops) and I could never figure out what the difference was, I always liked the black tops anyways!

The 98-99 cars did not have the body colored mirrors. After 2000, they all did. The tops almost always means V6 with color, and V8 black. I have however seen some V8's with the color top. Probably ordered that way.

The top is made out of SMC "simmilar to fiberglass" it is the same material as the doors, rear hatch and also hood if your car is SS or WS6 equiped.

It can be painted just like any other exterior panel with no special prep.

My 01 SS also has the black roof and body collor mirrors, I will soon be painting mine white to match the rest of the car. I think the car looks better proportioned when the roof is painted to match the rest of the car. when it is painted black it gives the illusion of the car being longer than it is.

The B4C cars of all years ('93-'02) also were all one color; top, mirrors and all. Only in the '95+ LT1 years could you get a body colored top with a non-B4C V8. Except the B4C cars, all '98-'99 ones had the black mirrors & tops for V8s and all '00 and up had black tops and body colored mirrors (excpet the '02 CE SS that has body colored mirrors and top).

Never has an F-body come stock with body colored t-tops, but I guess you could do it. They've always been either deep tinted or mirror tinted glass (except for a short while in '89 when they offered Lexan).

Personally I've never tried to paint standard glass, not even sure what type of prep work you would do......
