Default 2.73 to 3.23 a big change?

I know many of you are going to say, "Don't simply upgrade to another stock gear!" but I currently have the 2.73s and don't like them. I'm going to be stalling my car soon and I don't want to have to do it with the 2.73s, so I might simply upgrade to the 3.23s. And if for some odd reason I don't stall it, I'll still have the better 3.23s.

My question is: Are the 3.23s that big of a difference over the 2.73s? They seem to feel like it because there's another half rotation of the driveshaft in there!

You will feel a seat of the pants differance but you will probrably won't gain anything at the track. 2.73s and 3.23s are pretty close so you can easily use the same converter for both gears ratios, a 2.5 STR is nice with those. I would take the money for the gears and buy a converter, see how you like it with the 2.73s, then upgrade later if you want.

Well I think I'm going to leave in the 2.73s and buy a Vig 3200. But I'm also buying a used set of 3.23s from a local guy for cheap and holding onto them so I can swap them in if I want after the stall.

I did the gear swap first and put in 3.42's. They are nice. Then I did the vig 3200. WOW!! I love it! I would suggest it to anyone.

Are they the factory 3.23s? If so you'll need a 3 series carrier to go with them. Richmond sells the thicker style gears for our 2 series carriers.

Does the Vig 3200 feel pretty "tight" with the 3.42s?

Yeah they're factory 3.23s. I think it would be cheaper just to buy these from a local guy, then buy the 3-series carrier instead of getting the thicker ones. His gears are $45 and then however much a 3 series costs....

IT is looser than factory, but not a whole lot. I really like it!! Let me know if you have anymore questions.

i would say its worth it. i have 3.23 gears in my 99z and i had 27.5" dr's on it...then went to 26" dr's and the car picked up a couple tenths and 1.5 mph. car feels better driving around too.
