The only way you'd be able to use it without MAJOR machine work (ie, not worth the cost) is to lose your ABS.

You need a 3 channel to retain ABS. If you dont care it'll work fine.

i dont mean to hijack this thread but i hate starting new ones, anyways, i bought a 3-series carrier with 3.23s, having never take the cover off, today i noticed that the differential i bought has the ABS ring on it and the car has a 4-channel step-up, do i have to take the ring off the differential or will it fit in the housing and not cause any problems if i leave it on

oh and does anyone know what the average shim size is for the pinion if im going from a 2.73 to a 3.23 or does it very every time

I don't know about that, I just called Moser today about this same issue...my friend has a 12 bolt 4-channel rear end and I have a non-TCS car (3-Channel)...they said the rear could be drilled to mount the ABS sensor, and would cost about $100....but the differential has to be disassembled to do this...

I have a 4 channel ABS rear end working on my 3 channel ABS with no problems. You just need to get the right sized ring based on your rear end gearing. Then you should move the sensor from your stock 10 bolt to the front of the DS and extend the wiring so the sensor can read the pulses from the reluctor ring. After some testing we got it to work.

Do all 12bolt gears have a reluctor ring in the pumpkin no matter what channel they are? If not...then some internals would need to be changed too. I know on a 10-bolt...you just can't drill the hole, and mount the sensor because the ring which the sensors reads from isn't there. I've never seen a 3 channel and 4 channel 12 bolt side by side to see the internals, but I have seen a 3 channel and a 4 channel 10 bolt side by side. On the 3 channel, right next to the ring gear there's the reluctor ring with the teeth in it for the sensor to read...on a 4 channel..that's perfectly smooth.

What you saw in the 10 bolts is 99 percent what you will find in a 12 bolt. If a customer orders a 4 ch rear they don't put the posi mounted excitor ring on just in case. I think they should, but they don't.
