i dont mean to hijack this thread but i hate starting new ones, anyways, i bought a 3-series carrier with 3.23s, having never take the cover off, today i noticed that the differential i bought has the ABS ring on it and the car has a 4-channel step-up, do i have to take the ring off the differential or will it fit in the housing and not cause any problems if i leave it on
oh and does anyone know what the average shim size is for the pinion if im going from a 2.73 to a 3.23 or does it very every time

I have a 4 channel ABS rear end working on my 3 channel ABS with no problems. You just need to get the right sized ring based on your rear end gearing. Then you should move the sensor from your stock 10 bolt to the front of the DS and extend the wiring so the sensor can read the pulses from the reluctor ring. After some testing we got it to work.

I know on a 10-bolt...you just can't drill the hole, and mount the sensor because the ring which the sensors reads from isn't there. I've never seen a 3 channel and 4 channel 12 bolt side by side to see the internals, but I have seen a 3 channel and a 4 channel 10 bolt side by side. On the 3 channel, right next to the ring gear there's the reluctor ring with the teeth in it for the sensor to read...on a 4 channel..that's perfectly smooth.
