Default have a gear problem, need a suggestion

i pulled the diff cover off to see wtf was makin my rear scream so bad and the gear pattern looks great imo, the backlash seemed to be at almost 15 would that make it whine that bad, i mean dam. im thinking i may have crushed the crush collar some more to cause it to get that much backlash but i dont have a tool to check preload if i put the new solid spacer in and im going to the track friday. im affraid if i put another shim to make the pinion bite deeper to get rid of some backlash that the gear be to deep in the ring gear, any thoughts or suggestions.

I would check things very closely as I had a rear end change pitch on me and after closer inspection every one of the piniion teeth had a crack in them and it was just a little advanced warning of what was fixing to happen. A little backlash is good as it lets lubracation between the teeth and can actually cushion the shock on launch. But no more than the wide side of the recomendation of the gear manufacture.

You think that's tight I set some 4.30's for my 9" tonight and I set mine at .002 on the tight side and .004 on the loose side..

well if i get the backlash to 6 i wound up haveing the gears meshing to far together. so until i can find a preload dial tool ill just have to let the lash be off a bit and hope it holds up, im not missin out on tomorrow night.

You need to move the carrier not the pinion for backlash.
