Default Want to build 6.0 block 408 or 427 for street...

This will be my first small block build. I am new to the LS1 motors. I want to take my time and build a forged bottom end stroked block. I have a 99' C5. What are the pros and cons of building this set up,especially the 427. I want to be able to drive it everyday if needed. I built my 72 SS 454LS6 and I can get in it and go anywhere even down the highway on a road trip. My big block LS6 has 550+hp and 600tq. I read the posts about the oil pressure with the 6.0 block and the cam bearings is this a normal issue? I know you have problems when you build a hot rod and maintenance but I would like to hear some of the opions from you guys instead of people trying to sell me stuff...

HPE for a 408 shortblock then do the rest yourself. Pre 04 blocks are preferred.

i wouldn't do a 427 iron block. there's not enough meat left between the cylinder walls for a street motor. 408 on the spray would be my recomendation.

Thanks for the info guys. I thought there must be some heat issues on the 427. A lot of guys in the Dallas area lately have been doing the 408 set ups and seem to love them. Thanks alot...

Overheating isn't really an issue with LS1's, even strokers. One of many reasons I prefer this motor over the "old school" stuff.

I have a 422 iron block. Never had an issue with the motor. Broke an exhaust valve spring and it still ran an 11.2. The reason people don't do the 4.060 bore is that the middle four cylinders are thin and it may take sonic testing a few block to find one that will work. Any iron block should be good for a 30 over, but I would still sonic test to be sure. Much easier to go the 408 route.

I would think a 408 with forged internals and FI would be good solid motor with power to spare.
