Unhappy Well it is official !! RIP

yeap, it was only a matter of time, but I've spun a rod bearing, cyl #8.

At least it died with honor after a glorious but relatively short (55K) service.
Too many drugs for stock bottom (N2O).
It didn't die on a nitrous run though.

Cause?, well what else, rod bolt failure. Next block with ARP's for sure though.
The motor didn't lock but was giving metallic noise (which I first, attributed to MAC ORY banging on something).

About a week ago, I was on a pull around 140mph at close to 5K rpm and I felt like a knock/thump upon which I aborted the run.
Car ran Ok after that but that metallic noise kept getting worse.

so I'm getting quotes for short and longblocks, I'm waiting for HPE, LPE, and a few others.

How about Cartek?? anyone use their blocks and what is the difference between Sportsman and X blocks?

This is for my DD so I'm thinking keeping stock cubes in the 420rwhp range.
11>11.2 CR, stage 2 5.3 (300cfm), .035>.038 quench and a 224>228 range cam with traditional split 114 lsa.

Any GP's still going on??
Sponsors feel free to e-mail me at mark.habib@emirates.com

quality at good price with good service are a criteria.

(1 minute silence in respect to this departed, honorable LS1 )

Silence heard around the world, at least here in Afghan. Sorry bro, but your loss now will yield much more power later

I can vouch for one sponsors customer service on engine issues, APE and Nick and Chris have both been not only a tremondous help, but very responsive considering the time zone difference b/w us. Besides, I was able to get in on the GP so it was one helluva deal.

Good luck man,

Charlie

eeehmm ehhhmm sorry to hear about that . Yeah I think Dubai is a lil far from Afghanistan in the distance and style CAT3 if you had a chance to go to Dubai you will figure out that it is better than many American cities the only problem is the weather.

PREDATOR-Z how much were you spraying? I’m planning on 250hp in Bahrain (stock bottom) have the PP ls6 style 64 cc in the mail soon with Moser rear end with 3.73 .
Might visit Dubai in 3 weeks. I need some info about where ppl race (illegally) in Dubai
i know your next engine will be better belt cuz you have the knowledge .

I was spraying up to 200 dry (~163 wet), stock bottom, NO piston/ ring damage, just spun bearing. Motor still turned.
Illegal races (street) is done a little bit everywhere, so much space here.
There is a track at UMM Al Quwain though.
This is my Tel# +971 50 454 9676, give me a buzz if you come here.
The motor did well, i put it through so much abuse, 3 years/seasons of racing and countless street challenges.

The next one WILL have ARP bolts to handle the spray. still it will be my daily driver.

Thanks ZR2877

Pred, sorry to hear about your bearing. I think I saw TTP in either the Sales section of this forum or the C5 Sales section on corvetteforum.com having a forged shortblock for about $3000.00. It might be worth giving them a call too.

Good Luck. I have a feeling I'll be in the market for one in the not-too-distant future.

Hey that's terrible about the block, hope mine never goes. So you're in Dubai Preadtor-Z? I'm not too far away, in Iraq. I just came through there on R&R not too long ago. There are some nice cars there in Dubai, and some wicked bad roads. I stayed there for 3 days about a month ago and all I could think was, "Man I wish I had my Trans Am!". Saw a few Mustangs while I was there, but no F-body's. Are you any where near Jumeirah beach? Next time I roll through it'd be cool to go have a few drinks. Patrick at the Ritz makes a bad martini!

Sorry to hear about the unfortunate demise of your shortblock....

Word to the wise....build a LARGER, stronger one next time.

Build a 383 (all stroke)...It will work killer on the street, provide more torque everywhere, especially down low, and when you analyze what the whole job will cost to replace your stock CID engine, the stroker motor will literally only be a few bucks more...

You will LOVE the extra displacement....trust me on that one.

Good luck whichever route you choose...

I was suggesting the more "economical" stroker motor first!

Yes, the larger bore 402 or 408 would certainly be NICE.

I got my 408 from HPE, they did a great job and they still to this day answer any questions I have about my motor, they keep all the blueprints and stuff on file if you ever need anything for the motor.

My only gripe with them was it took a little longer than I expected to get the short block, but that was because they were having trouble getting the right pistons.

Did they sort out the knock sensor issues? I know they install them externaly on the side but how about tuning? (I haven't really kept track of this)
