Default Motor from the top?

All the searches I've done on pulling the motor it seems everyone pulls it from underneath. Anyone pull it from the top in their home garage (without a hyd lift)? I got the heads, intake, headers all of so there is nothing but a shortblock left and I want to pull it to work on it. Has anyone done this? How did you do it? I just want to know the best way to pull it from the TOP!

Been there , done that , got the T-shirt . Its easy to pull from the top provided you pull off the accessories and such . I pulled it with a wooden A-frame setup (looks like an oversized childs swing set), put it back in with a cherry picker borrowed from a friend . If you have any specific questions , feel free to ask .

About how much does a shortblock weigh? A stock LS1. What's the hardest part of pulling it? Is there anything that sticks out in your mind as a pain in the arss!

i pulled mine from the top and it was easy
put one end of the chain on the upper most bellhousing hole on the pass side(not the middle hole) and put the other end on the front driver side of the block and make sure you out the cheery picker on the right chain link to give you the right angle to get it out...should come out no problem becasue thats how i did it

came out easy

not to hard to do. just make sure you have all of the accessories off and a cherry picker would be a great tool

I can pull a complete motor(less intake and valley cover) from the top with a modified engine tilter I made. It bolts where the valley cover goes and makes things easy as pie!

Yanked and installed my longblock from the top with the tranny still attached. Didn't even have to take the hood off. Its easy just pull the powerstearing pump, radiator, and ac and your game

I pull mine from the top and put it in the top all the time.

damn, this might be the way I go. If you leave the tranny on, where do you bolt the chain?

As easy as this sounds why is everyone always talking about pulling it from the bottom?
