Default track legal window tint question

I have a friend who's car makes over 700rwhp and should run mid to low 9's this year, and his buddy is supposed to tint the windows soon.

Is there a NHRA/IHRA rule regarding maximum tint?

He appreciates your input.

NHRA allows NO tint.. but unless you are running an NHRA event, no one outside of NHRA cares, we run limo 5% on the back and side windows of my car.

If it's plated and considered a "street car", then you might be able to get away with it at an NHRA track.

What's the legal limit in your state? Most states it is 35%.

In IL nothing is allowed on the side windows, anything is allowed in the back.

I've heard about the no tint rule for NHRA tracks but its never been enforced. I have 5% and not a word has been said.

Get a note from an Optometrist stating that you suffer from sun blindness, works wonders.

Never seen anyone questioned about it at my local NHRA track.

RomanSS has almost opaque windows on his Camaro.

get some 1% tint.... better yet just spray paint the windows black...

I doubt anyone would fuss over window tint, and if aerodynamics or drag is not a big issue, i guess tint is not an issue if they are rolled down right?

I believe the rule is whatever the state/federal legal tint allowed is what passes. I have a buddy that races super street with his nova and it has 35% on all windows and it passes NHRA divisional tech (pretty strict) without a problem. However, I know of some big-money footbrake races that allow NO tint at all (mostly for spotters to check for cheaters).

John,

I bracket race with a couple of guys at Route 66 that have BLACK limo tint on the side and back windows. They arn't given any crap by the officials there. I can't imagine that anywhere else would then.
