Default Disappointment on Nitto 555R's ...

Well, the best sticky street tire I have found is the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3. I've tried about every street tire imagineable from the factory-installed GSC's, RSA's, HP Ultra Plus' ... to Kumho 712's. None have come anywhere close to the GS-D3, in my experiences.

That said, several folks here said I would notice night-and-day difference between GS-D3's and Nitto 555R's. Well, I have noticed very little difference at all. I'm very disappointed with the expectations I had. I've heated the living **** out of these Nitto's and they stick pretty good when heated, but, I was told just driving around would create enough friction to make them stick like glue on the street.

I don't think Nitto's are bad tires. Don't get me wrong. I just think that GS-D3's, under normal ,dry, driving conditions (around town) stick as well as the Nitto's do. Anyone else been disappointed with their expectations from Nitto 55R's ???

Anyone have 0-60' times with both tires? Please post if you do. It would be interesting to see the difference (dragstrip) between the two.

The regular street nittos are awesome. Hook decent and last a long time.

If you have them over 28 psi they won't hook on the street for sh*t. At the strip I keep mine at 20-22psi. I've not had a set of GSD3's but have had lots of Nittos, for the price I really like the 555R's.

BFG DR's are super sticky, wear out twice as fast as Nitto's but wouldn't want them as daily drivers...

Any more than 28#'s on the street and you'll wear the centers right out of them.

Makes sense and sounds like good advice > on the tire pressure. I'll drop about 5 lbs of air and see how they grip. I'll bet it will make a big difference. Thanks for the advice.

Just saw the last part of your question. My car (see sig) pulled a best 60 ft of 1.70 on a 315/35/17 nitto at 22psi. Not sure what the eyeroll is about..........

I loved my Nittos when I had them, I ran them at 20lbs of air on the street and 15psi at the track and they hooked pretty good, lots of 1.8 60fts trying not to break the rearend!! But it still broke! This year I am running the new M/T Drag Radials being I am now supporting a 9"

I can't wait to burn up my nittos and get a set of those. I have 2 friends who put them on thier cars last fall and wacthed thier 60' times drop. They have to be the stickiest DR out there. I wouldn't want to get caught in the rain with them though.

I dropped 7 pounds because the guy who mounted them had inflated them to 35 friggin' pounds. They're at 28 psi now and I could tell a nice difference, For the street, I think I'm run them about 4 more pounds lower ... 24 psi.

No wonder the damned things weren't gripping very well. As for the ... well, I just like the cute little mother ****** ... no message was intended in that post.

So how would you compare them to the GS-D3s now?

GS-D3's are still on the front corners with the Nitto's out back. I like 'em both right where they are. I think it's a good combination. Haven't driven the Nitto's long enough to really know how much better they stick than the GS-D3's, but, I felt a pretty good difference so far.

They'll go on down to 24 psi in the morning. I think when the asphalt heats up they'll be everything I've was told they are. Damn!!!! I can't believe the dude inflated them to 35 psi. I should have checked when he mounted them.

I can probably tell you from experience in a few weeks or months ... ! From what most everybody says, A4's will handle the turture ... M6's won't.
