1/8th mile
Well guys i will be leaving the end of june, but have a question. Who here has raced 1/8 mile? 90% of the tracks in virgina are 1/8 mile, and i am wondering what changes i would need to make. I will probely race 1/8 mile brckets in pro class when i get out there.
Any advice would be helpfull.

I was looking along the lines of 4.56-4.88's

But what about the times it sees the 1/4 tracks will that be too steep? or will that still be few and far between?

I use to run 1/8th all the time in Idaho, and currently run 1/8th on Wed. nights @ Portland. I personally like it, but also like 1/4. Running brackets on 1/8th is much more challenging with less room for error on your dial ins. You don't have to make any changes, but would suggest a gear change to maximize. I currently run a 4.10 and it works for both. Another thing with 1/8 is a little less wear and tear on the car and you can get more runs in given the same amount of time. That is why Portland runs 1/8th on Wed. nights.

Just add more hp and rpms when you add more gear... that'll solve the "steep gear" problem.
As for the 1/8 mile, that would suck if that's all you get to race out there... 1/8 mile is only half a race if you ask me. I'd ask the track officials "Ok... so where's the rest of the track?"

I'd also like to know this to find out if the extra shifting that a 4.88 gear is gonna need will be worth it in the long run.
And if you're wall to wall on the 1/4 with 4.10s you will probably kiss the wall with some 4.88's man. That is some serious gear multiplication!!!

I've wanted to give the monroe deal a shot and see how I do there. Right at the 1/8th is where I'm shifting into 3rd @ ~85. Might be fun ripping around turn 1 at the end of the 1/8th.
I'd be willing to give it a shot. Maybe we all invade monroe as a club one night??? Close and fun.
I had 4.88's without an overdrive in a chevelle. Freeway sucked, but light to light it was hard to beat.
