locking header bolts...
Has anyone used State 8 locking header bolts?? I bought a set and had a question, what are the 2 odd shapped pieces for?? they look like the pices that the "C" clip cover up. Also do they have to be in any specific direction when put on??
Thanks for the help

I put them on when I did my motor. I have a friend who swares by them. He has done dozens of header installs. Put the clip on so that it is on the left side of the primary, some have tabs that should be self explainatory. If the bolt tries to come loose aka move CCW, it will not go because the lock is hitting the primary/flange.

I have the stage 8's in right now, I feel they were worth the price. So far none have backed out on me. I also have the clips in them too. But once you put those clips in, they are a pain in the *** to take back out.

I have stage 8 bolts as well, and did put the clips on, however while I do recommend getting the stage 8 bolts, don't put the clips on, my bolts haven't moved at all since, and the clips are a huge pain

I installed Stage 8s in December and all went in with no problems but #8 had to go in from the bottom. Just put your mind to it and you should figure out which clips go where and how.

Guys what is the point of buying the stage 8s and not using the clips that is what they are designed for and if used correctly there is no way they can back out

For the price just use the stockers. There free and hold just fine. I 've personally put two different sets of headers on my car, and had to loosen or take off the headers to do other work plenty of times. Never had one leak or one back out on me. I just use the same manifold gaskets and same bolts that came off of it. Just a waste of money IMO unless your buying them for the looks.

I just used the bolts that came with my Dynatechs. I have had them on and off at least 4 times while doing other work and they have never loosened up on their own. Gaskets are the metal ones that came with the headers.
