Default What gear ratio to upgrade if at all?

Right now I have the stock 3.42's and would like to go with 3.73's to get more gear. I went from 3.55 to 4.10 in my old truck, and it didnt impress me as much as i had built it up in my head. Would 4.10's be noticable? Ive also heard you cant fit 4.10 gears in a stock 10 bolt without some custom mods to the housing, true?

no....4.10s will fit just fine....make sure u take all the necessary precautions because the pinion is smaller. IMO if you are serious about modding your car wait on the gears till you get a 12 bolt or 9in rear end otherwise u are throwing away money. JMHO tho. But 410s are nice...I have em and I love them.

Well other than the 100 shot i am putting in I am probably not going to do much more than converter, cam, intake, and headers.

Is that enough mods to blow out a 10 bolt? The 12 bolt is money I don't want to spend if i can get away with it. I understand what you mean about pissing my money away with gears in the 10 though. I just wish I could get a way with it.

I would think about keeping the 3:42s if ya going to do the mods. The 3:42s are a tuffer gear and last longer! Till ya get the funds for the 12 bolt!

haha. I plan on getting nitto's but I keeping getting side tracked with the nos and converters and gears and bs. I have ZERO tread, may as well be drag slicks(they hook up in 50+ dry weather. But "Johnny Law" told me I need tread on my tires.

well yeah that will prolly blow the 10 bolt. Maybe not though since your an auto....however you may run out of gear with the spray. The 4.10s would almost def put u in overdrive through the traps unless you have a much taller tire/ much higher rev limiter. What cam are you putting in? Because if your rpm limit is going up then 4.10s will work. Personally I would get 3.73s and run them with a girdle and heavy duty posi. My buddy had this in a 30th anniversary vert LT-1 with 150shot, LTs, nittos and suspension and went 11.53 on a ten bolt with 373s. Depends how serious u want to get.

im talking out my *** with the cam, i'll probably rock the stock cam til im 40 years old and married. So I am realistcally going to do a 3000 converter and tranny rebuild with the 100 shot.

What is a girdle?
