Proof for doubters of the benefits of a ported TB.
Hopefully this won't get sent to the sponsor feedback or dyno forums. Lately there's been a lot of talk about the benefits of ported throttle bodies but very littl "real" proof of gains, so I think this would be the place to post for the most people to benefit.
Some people claim the car is more responsive.....honestly I couldn't tell, but my butt-o-meter is hard to impress.
I finally got my car to the dyno this weekend. The first run was with my stock TB & engine coolant @ approx 180*.
Second run was with a ported Bo White TB in place, but I was already warmed up and couldn't get the temp below 200* (it mostly fluxed between 204-201*).
Non Ported: 315 hp & 333 lbtq
Ported : 321 hp & 335 lbtq
The numbers above are gains at peak. Not much of a difference between the two until 3,900 rpm's when the ported one starts to take a 2 hp & tq lead. The torque pretty much fluxes between 2-6 lbs the entire time up to 6,000rpm's. Similar story with the hp, pretty much the same until 3,900 when it gains 2 and increases a little at a time until 5,000rpm's where has (and keeps) an advantage of 6hp up to 6,000rpm's.
I'm sure my numbers would have been closer (if not more) to Bo's gain of 8hp, if my engine temps would have been 20* cooler. I guess I shouldn't have procrastinated on installing my thermostat huh?
Considering how much time you spend at the track over 5,000 rpm's, $65 for a gain of 6hp (at least) is a hell of a good deal.

Glad ya got it on the dyno and got 10 bucks per HP. I do not know where you can buy HP for that much so I think its pretty good. All of the testing I have done or seen done was very controlled and as accurate as possible like the temp and such. Hopefully jrp will get his stuff runnin right and get the testing he his going to do as well. Thanx again

its pretty much just a bolt in mod..... your PCM can handle the small amount of change it really has to...
but $65???
dam.... I can do it myself at home for about $12...and about 6 total hours worth of work...take it off the night before...lay in the epoxy...and the copper pipe...
let it dry...go to grinding with the dremel..... clean it up with a little denatured alchohol..... slap it back on the car and drive off

Hey Bo, can you ask Scott if a car that has already been tuned needs another tune after installing your TB?
I'm still gonna get mine done with you, but it'll be a 'lil while now, I'm having to get my hail damage fixed. I probably can't get up with you about it for another few weeks.
