Tuning for 3600 stall?
What kind of tuning will I need when I install my 3600 / 1.8STR torque converter? i am not really talking about a shiftkit.. i know that'd help with the firmness of the shifts, and everything.. but i would like to see if i like how it feels without the shiftkit first.. and then if i feel i need it, i'll buy the transgo shiftkit.
but my question is more to the nature of "what do i need to do to ensure my tranny won't take a ****?" ... b&m 24,000gvw tranny cooler is going in with the TC, and i am also going to install a tranny temp gauge to monitor the tranny temp just in case ... but what else would i need, and how much will it cost?

I would consider replacing the stock flexplate with a TCI SF29 unit, you need to remove 3 of the 6 bolts of the flexplate to replace the TC, might as well get it then.

why? what's it do? seeing how my T/A is a 2000 and all posts i can find say 98, 99, and 2000 are fine.. its the 2001 and 2002 that have the POS flexplate ..
i dont really have $199 laying around doing nothing.. so if it should be fine, why replace it ?

They went to a different flexplate in 01 & 02 that is more hogged out and thinner, it is prone to cracking.
My point:
You are installing a high stall (3600) with a smaller diameter TC, for $199 more, you can replace the flexplate WHILE YOU ARE ALREADY IN THERE, and end any FUTURE possible problems related to the higher stall, str, and rotating mass.

Heat is what kills transmissions quicker then anything. As long as you keep an eye on the temperature and aren't running over 400 rwhp your tranny has a chance to last a long time. Just save some cash as you go so when it does eventually break you got the money to replace it with a stronger one (built 4L60E or even better a TH400).

heh.. ill try not to get scared too much.. although my goal *was* 450 rwhp, i guess ill lower it to 400rwhp until i got some money i can spend on a new tranny
thanks, man.. at least now i know ive a chance, somewhat, to not need a new tranny soon

Yeah it's hard to keep 4L60E's alive for more then a year at a time if you pushing between 400-500 RWHP. And anything above 500 forget it. A few guys have gotten 4L80E's here to work but it seems TH400 is the more popular route once power gets big.

302-250-1202 just tell frank what you want . it will last a long time or he will fix it free. Best dam tranny guy in the country on 4l60e was running 580 rwhp on a 408 for 30,000 miles then sold the car still working perfect.
