Awesome run with a friends 03 Cobra.
Hey all:
Went out to Fontana drag strip Saturday night to watch the races. Meet up with a few friends including my friend with a 03 convertable cobra. After the races we Headed home. A few miles before our on ramp I called him on the cell phone and asked if he wanted to give it a go.
His a 03 Convertable Cobra with X-pipe, cat-back, cold air kit, accufab throttle body, 2.93 lightning pulley and a full tune.
He did have 2 other people in the car that added about 300 lbs extra in his car and I was by myself.
1st run We went from 70-75 mph to 140 mph and he started in 4th gear and we stayed dead even.
2nd run started from 60-65 mph and he was in 3rd gear and I got a slight jump and put 1 to 1 1/2 cars on him and went to 130 mph and he never gained.
To be honest I didn't even expect to stay up with him. I am sure with a car with his same set-up and a coupe, with only one person in the car, they would have pulled me, but not as bad as I would have expected.
I was very, very, very pleased. These cars with some good bolt ons, cam and stall do wonders.
Just wanted to share it with you all.

This is like the 5th story I've heard this week where guys in stock geared LS1s and/or Cobras are racing from 70 mph and one car or the other started the race in 4th gear.

I was suprised also that we stayed dead even like we did the 1st run. Then the 2nd run, he tryed 3rd and I pulled the 1 to 1 1/2 cars on him.
I know he sayed he raced his friends 03 Z06 both from the same type rolls and him starting in the same gears and pulled the Z06 both times.
So tell me what he did wrong so I can tell him and we can give another try.

As for gears I went from the stock 273 gears to 342 gears.
Also I am a auto with a nice 3,200 stall, so it really doesn't mater what mph I start from it pulls hard when ever I nail it.

Here is another question?
This is what I have done to my 02 Z-28 A4. Ram air mod, K&N, Slp bellows boot, Slp ported throttle body, asp crank pulley, tr224 cam, pushrods, 918 springs, pacesetters LT headers, tsp y-pipe with hi-flow cats, catback exaust, 3,200 stall with 342 gears all tuned by Jeff Creech.
Are you saying on the freeway I will maybe give a stock 03-04 cobra a somewhat of a run but if they have any type mods I will have have no chance in hell?
By the way I have owned both Ford and Chevrolet and own both right now. Just look at my sig.
I may sell my 85 in the next year or two to get the Ford GT500.

We will give it another try or I will need to find a 03-04 with just a few bolt ons and pulley.

You have enough goodies to give a pullied Snake a good run. KB'd or Whipplecharged? Ehh, maybe not. Then again, just cause they have the power don't mean they can hook it or drive it.

To even think about a KB or Whipple 03-04 Cobra I would need to put a blower on mine.
Where I have the biggest advantage is at the track. I have seen about 12-15 03-04 Cobras at Fontana drag strip in the past few months run anywhere from a 14.4 to a best of 12.4
My best run was a 12.2 and worse was a 12.5
I still havent taken my 85 Mustang GT to the track yet. Last run's I made in it was low 12's. Now it has fully ported heads, 850 holley hp carb fully worked and tuned with a Paxton sn 2000 supercharger with 10-12 psi. It put down 448 HP with 481 Torq and weighs just a little over 2,900 lbs.
I think I may really look into the Shelby GT500. The latest Fast Ford said they where putting in the 5.4 and blown with around 450-500 HP.
