My 01 Z 3.42's were dead quiet, but I installed 3.72's and they have a back off whine. Do your gears make noise under power or as you let off the throttle?

My 99 started to whine about 3 months or so ago. I'm going to change the fluid out this weekend and hopefully that'll help until I get a 9".

I need to add that I bought a used set of gears off ebay. The seller said they were a matched pair, but I am beginning to wonder. The local shop that installed them said they were aware that some of the sellers on ebay are just mixing and matching to make the needed gear ratios and that could be the problem. Live and learn. My seller was a junk yard guy so who knows.

Default whine

Try flushing your differential, and DON'T forget to put the GM Positraction additive. I have found that this is a good place to start. But, do not forget that the rearend on these late '90's F-bodies are a weak link and could be foreshadowing failure.

I replaced the silent 2:73's with 3:42's and brand is Yukon. From day 1 they had a slight whine, then after a few months the I added Royal Purple in the rear and quieted it down a little, so this year I put Nitto's on the car and as soon as they went on the car whines alot and much louder. This was even before I ran the car at the track, not sure if it could be the tires are not balanced correctly. It is starting the annoy me, but is loudest when letting off the gas or when steadily going a speed. When I punch the gas or drop down to a lower gear to slow down there is no whine.
