Question Why aren't these rims fitting? Please help!!

My buddy just bought some stock rims from a guy here on the forum. They came off of his 2001 T/a and my friend has a 96' Trans Am. The rear wheels do not fit on the car... The pattern is the same but it's just barely off. The front two rims fit fine it's just the back he is having a problem with...
Did they change after 96' and if so is there some way he can get them to fit?

Thanks alot for any help!

that doesnt sound right at all. are these aftermarket wheels? the rearend is the same from 82-02 actually. well depending on disc or drum. the hub size is a little different, but thats nothing that a little filing to the rim cant fix. are you sure its not hitting on the hub?

i think i know what you talking about...the round hub on the older cars(LT1s) is a tad bigger....a little grinding on the hub will take care of it...and this is so for most 98+ wheels on LT1 cars

Yup, a dremel works well, you will have to celearance it a bit. Happens with almost all wheels.

Thanks guys, we will either do that or try using a spacer from a tire store... What do yall think about that?

don't run a spacer. just remove a small amount of material from the center of the wheel and it will slide right on.

I have some 98 wheels on my 96 Z28 & I had a machine shop open up the hole in the center.

Why shouldn't I not use a spacer? I mean what is your reason?
Just wondering because I am trying to figure out which one to do tomorrow...
Thanks a bunch!

The spacer wont make the problem much better, you have to have the wheel slide over the hub for it to fit properly no matter what you do.

Oh I see... We went to get a dremel tool about an hour and half ago but they didn't have what we needed so I guess we will have to wait until tomorrow.
Thanks man.

Man it's not a lot that needs to be removed. Just get some 80 grit and run it around the inside circle for a few minutes.

sand paper would take away from my experience...I used a power drill and a big circular stone bit to sand it down evenly. The bit itself was almost the size of the hole so i just stuck it in and barely had to move it...that sounds really bad...haha

I had to have my C5 wheels machined out by a machine shop to fit over the rear. It cost me about $20.00. Good luck

I just used a 3 inch 80 grit "flap wheel" on the WS6 rims I bought for my 94 TA. Put it on a cordless drill, and a minute later, voila, the rims went on. I jus took barely enough off to get the rim to go on and fit the axle snug.

it's normal man. There is a slight difference in the diamiter in 98+. just remove a tiny bit of the center of the wheel untill it slides on and your fine. Hundreds of people have done this.
